    Canon 10D Lens

I just bought my first camera. A used Canon 10D. Body only. I need to buy a lens. I'm unable to afford the L glass. Looking for a good all around lens 17-70,28-70 or 28-105. Any suggestions or comments would be great.

    Re: Canon 10D Lens

What sort of thing do you want to photograph, in what sort of light?
How much money can you afford to spend?

My first ever SLR lens was a 50mm f/2 and for general photography it was excellent.
Canon's 50mm f/1.8 lens is ridiculously cheap and great quality.

    Re: Canon 10D Lens

Hi, I bought this digital camera the Canon 30D and as a matter of fact I'm in th emarket of a lens as well. There is a collection of lenses here http://www.ipelagos.com/cat_lenses.cfm . I'm trying to choose one. I want first to read some reviews though before I buy anything. Does anyone know where we can get such reviews?

    Re: Canon 10D Lens

There are reviews of Canon lenses here at PR. I'd also suggest searching the Canon Forum for the particular lens you are interested in or posting a question. Several regular forum members have used or are using about every Canon lens available in the EF(EOS) mount.

I would second the 50mm f/1.8 suggestion. The 50 f/1.4 though several time more money is only better in speed and build. For the less than $100, the 1.8 version can be replaced several times!

You choice for an "all around lens" depends upon how wide you need as well as you budget. Two fixed focal lengths('primes') units might be a good budgetary option unless you don't want to carry and change lenses.

Let us know ! We'll eagerly await photographs.
