Cannon s500 or Nikon coolpix 7900

Hi guys i am very new to photography and want to get a nice camera, my two choices are between these two, could you guys let me know the better of the two, thanks!

IMHO The Nikon clearly has the Canon beat, and this is coming from a Canon user. The Nikon is faster, sleeker, has a longer zoom, and higher MP count at 7.1 over the s500's 5.2. The one thing that really bugs me is the Canon's 32mb's of included memory, in CF form, over the Nikon's internal 13.5mb's of SD memory.

Still, I would go with the Nikon.

if you go to my post in the "No Words ... The Golden Hour" thread, you'll see a shot taken with my Canon S500. I bought it ONLY for its size. I needed something that could fit easily in a pocket or purse. But it gives me decent pictures.

Wow Kelly. Now I havn't seen any examples. I was going on stats. And i would have to say that unless I saw some really bad images from the Nikon i would be likely to stick with it, but those images prove that the s500 is a very capable camera.
