how good would rate this camera. what kind of other SLR's would suggest for the same price?

I can only speak from my personal experience with this camera. I upgraded from the Rebel 300D almost a year ago. I don't know what you're looking for, so am not sure what I should "focus" on. I'm a serious amateur and do mostly street photography, although I also enjoy landscape, portrait and a little of everything sometimes. I get excellent results with the XT and have no complaints.

Ok yeah I am an amature and will do alot of far away shots like aircraft and such would thins handle that what type of lense would I use. This would be my first slr cammera.
