are camera's with AA batteries better than a camera with recharg packs?

Do you get more shots out of camera's with rechargeable AA batteries, or the cameras that have batterypacks?

I'm trying ot decide between the L20 nikon or the Canon SD1100IS

    can't decide.

I only consider cameras that use "AA" size batteries, but for convenience, not for how many shots one can take. Getting "extra" battery packs is usually rather pricey, but if you run out of charged-up AAs, you can always grab a few (well, buy them, anyway) from a drug store.

I prefer battery packs. my first digital camera used AA batteries and drained them rather quickly. I am sure that cameras have come a long way since than. I would consider camera size when using AA's. I would assume that a AA camera will be a bit thicker to make room for the batteries.

I like cameras that use AA batteries. You can always bring extra ones with you, and they are available pretty much any where. Lithium batteries work very well in my powershot camera. I'd recommend the powershot.

Better? No not really. They can be the same cameras
My 20D battery grip came with an AA cell adapter that I've never needed, having bought 3 batteries for the 20D.
I can't remember the model, but there is a Pentax DSLR that takes AA cells.

I like AA for the availability, the small size of AA chargers, and the long life with Lithium cells as a back for when the rechargeables run out.
My Panasonic LZ-5 is a real workhorse on 2300mA AAs, lasts a day just fine.
My Canon G9 can run out of battery during the day, PITA.

I like the 1D and its battery packs for the image quality and long battery life, so far I've never had one run out on me during a day's shooting. I couldn't imagine how many AA cells a 1D would eat in a day !

Rechargable AAs have come a long way in the last few years and as such, you can get the best of both worlds with them. Solid performance and rechargable long lasting life. But cameras that use AAs are larger and heavier.
