I'm hoping someone here can provide me with some advice... I have client, who is an insurance company. We are in the process of deploying HP 2730P Windows 7 Tablets to their inspectors who perform random inspections of sites that have insurance policies with my client. As part of the inspection routine, the inspectors currently take photos with point and shot cameras, then when they get back to the office, they upload and attach their photos to the underwriting software for review by the underwriters. These photos include safety hazards, electric panels, stoves, etc, and remain archived to each policy holder's policy within the underwriting software.
As part of the Windows 7 Tablet deployment, the software developer is writing an inspector's application which allows them takes notes in the field right on the tablet, attach photos, and wirelessly sync their notes / data back to corporate via VPN over WWAN. The HP 2730P has a built-in webcam, which allows us to "acquire" photos via the Windows Imaging Interface, which the inspector can then mark up using Windows 7 tablet features and the stylus and save that marked up photo right into the inspection app (although we've only been testing this with OneNote 2007 thus far - the inspection app is being modified to allow this right now).
Unfortunately, the HP 2730P's integrated webcam points at the user of the tablet, and it is not easy to "point & shot" at the items that the inspectors need to take photos of. As a result, the client has tasked me to find a Bluetooth enabled digital camera (or even proprietary wireless) that will allow the inspectors to wirelessly acquire photos from (either in real-time, or near real-time – so snap the photo and Windows 7 will sync from the camera within a few seconds) using Windows 7 x64.
Now I’ve done some basic research, but haven’t really found what I’m looking for. Those cameras that I have found (via Google) that have Bluetooth all appear to be discontinued, so I need to find a camera that will do the job that is still available and in production.
So – does anyone have any suggestions?
