Well it finally happened my wife in all her infinite wisdom, saw fit to
get me a digital camera for christmas...its a HP M517 with a 428 printer,as I
have said on here before, I have never even taken one shot with a digital camera
I have a Rebel T2 film camera for the last 2 years (which I am definitly going to keep
using because I still need to learn about things like spot metering and other things )
but hopefully the digital will help me with things like composition & the like,since you can
see the pic after you take it,& I still plan to use my SLR.....Has anyone here,ever used
any of the HP point &shoot digital along with the printer or something like it,since I havent
had much time to look at it since monday & I couldnt find a review on here....Thanks

I'm not familiar with the HP 517, but I have used a couple of HP digital cameras and I have the HP 7960 printer here at the office. The main thing with a digital is to take advantage of the tools it offers, namely, instant feedback and the histogram. They will help you to understand exposure better and make better images.

It's like anything NEW - you just have to spend some time with it to become familiar with the controls, and get comfortable with using it. Most HP products are very 'user friendly' and the HP web sight has additional information if you run into a major problem.
It's almost like riding a bicycle, using a computer, or dancing to a Tango -

Rather than learn about things such as spot metering, learn about exposure and light so you will not have to depend on specialty meters getting it right when choosing the light for you. A digital camera is great for learning the basics, much more so than a film camera. In no time at all, that film camera will be gathering dust. The camera doesn't take photos, you do.
