Beginer question

Hello everyone! My name is Chris and I am new to the forum.

Photography has always been an interest of mine, but Iv never really got the chance to really pursue that interest. Appreciating nature is a huge passion of mine and when I saw pictures of nature online (animals, landscapes, ect.) I realized that I was photography bound, its not even a choice... hahah

My question is what is a good beginner camera for someone who wants to take pictures of nature ( birdwatching, landscapes, detailed textures). I'm guessing a camera fit for taking decent pictures of nature doesn't come cheap, but what would the cheapest camera thats decent enough for the needs of nature picture taking be?

Welcome to the forums. We have many exceptional nature photographers here.

The first thing we would need to know is what you want to spend? How much higher in price?
The powershot is probably a very good p&s but if you seriously want to get into the photography of nature, you'll need to start thinking dslr or slr down the road.

Well, DSLR, no question. The question rather is: will you afford the DSLR?

Although, heck, you can get DSLR kits for under $400, look at a Canon Rebel XT, a Konica Minolta Maxxum 5D, a Nikon D50. If you are looking for a nicer one time investment, the Sony DSC-R1 is a spectacular option, just leaving you a bit short on telephoto reach.
