Welcome to the EVIL cameras forum!

Welcome to our brand, spankin' new EVIL cameras forum. The biggest issue with this forum was what to name it. You can peek in on that debate here, on our Olympus and Four Thirds Forum. I was very much against using the term, EVIL, which, in case you didn't know, stands for Electronic Viewfinder Interchangeable Lens camera. But the word is just too loaded for my taste. Plus, I wanted to cash in on whatever search engine value the Micro Four Thirds format has already earned. Obviously, in the end I caved and just did the obvious. After a couple of weeks of thinking about it, it was just more important to get the damn forum up and runnning

I hope this forum becomes a home for Micro Four Thirds and other compact system camera camera owners, as well as a source for information on these new cameras. As this new category develops there are going to be more and more questions. It's good to have a central location to share the info and our opinions.

Now I'm just going to share some links to EVIL camera-related content I've created. Feel free to add your own links.

My Micro Four Thirds Camera Photos:
    My Olympus E-P1 Photos >>
    My Olympus E-P2 Photos >>
    My Olympus E-PL1 Photos >>
My Panasonic Lumix G1 Photos >>

My Micro Four Thirds Camera Video Review / Tours:
    Olympus E-P1 Announcement >>
    Olympus E-P2 Intro Video >>
    Olympus E-PL1 Preview Video >>
Panasonic Lumix GH1 Video Intro >>

And I don't want to leave the other players out. Here are links to some Samsung and Sony EVIL camera action:
    Samsung NX10 Announcement >>
Sony Compact Alpha And EVIL Cameras At PMA (video) >>

We might have to repurpose this article category. I'm not sure yet. But this should include most editorial and news stories on EVIL / compact system cameras:

Micro Four Thirds Cameras News & Reviews >>

So there are a bunch or resources for the uninitiated to dig through. Like I said, feel free to reply and add links to your own photos or other EVIL camera resources. Thanks for visiting and thanks for contributing to what I hope will become a very active forum!

I'm happy we have a specific forum for these "evil" cameras. I don't like the name to be honest. But, I like my E-PL1 and I really like the people who will be hanging out here..........so guess I'll hang around.

I don't like the name, either. I think it's silly. But checking the number of Google searches convinced me it would be stupid not to use it.

I don't know if it will or not. But right now there are an equal number of searches for "evil cameras" and "micro four thirds cameras." Every other name idea I came up with had less. That's why I ended up using this forum name. As far as SEO goes, I had no choice.

Is it about time to change the term ? (wikipedia has).
Problem is what to change it to? 'Mirrorless' might not last long (Sony), perhaps prismless ? 'PILC' ?

Yeah, I never liked "EVIL" but it had a lot of traction with Google so I committed to it. Probably can't change it now without hurting traffic to this forum. If we see a real shakeout with the naming, then I will consider it. From what I've seen lately on dealer sites, "compact system" seems to be taking hold.

The Fuji X100 is a digital rangefinder like the Leica M8 and M9. It's not new technology, other than the fact that it's digital. And since it doesn't have an EVF it's definitely not an EVIL camera. That doesn't mean we can't discuss it here, though. Although I think it would probably be a better fit for the Digital SLR forum.

Well maybe half an EVIL (switchable between rangefinder and liveview), it does seem a bit up-market though like the M8,M9, perhaps a category of their own? (yeh, I can see it gets messy here).

Re: Welcome to the EVIL cameras forum!

I scratch the hell out of my Canon G10 lens and needed another camera while it is being repaired.

I bought a Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF2 yesterday and I am very happy with it so far.

Can someone tell me how to set the Auto Bracket setting so it will indeed take multiple shots at different stops (= and -)?

I can't seem to make it work (want to create some HDR images).

    Thanks...

    - Vince

Never mind - figured it out - you have to hold down the shutter button.

    RTFM - duh.
