Okay, I think I have decided on the canon rebel xsi. I am wondering if I should get it in the lens kit? EF-S 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 Lens

I plan on buying a 50mm f/1.8, and was looking at the Tamron AF 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 Di LD Macro Zoom as well.

I will mostly be doing portraits and everyday candids of my 2 year old (who never sits still) and any other everyday fun pics I want to take. What lens do you recommend for this type of work. My budget is probably under $300 if I get the lens kit, if I just buy the body I will be able to pay $400, but I want to be able to have a good walkaround lens as well as my 50mm.

I really am clueless and am doing a LOT of online reading so please educate this dslr newbie!

I recently got an XSi with the kit lens, and I also got a Tamron 17-50 f/2.8. The kit lens is really pretty good, but I'm planning to put it on Ebay when I find time. The Tamron is a better lens all around. It's faster, which will help freeze your two y/o, it has nice bokeh, and it's also very sharp. The kit lens is very small and light, and the IS is nice, but it's just not at the same level as the Tamron.
