Question about Fisheye lens

Hi I'm a newb here and pretty new to photography in general. I've been taking pics for years, but am now wanting to make it a hobby. I just bought a 400D the other week and am now looking at lenses.

I'm wanting a fisheye and have found a couple deals on Amazon. a Tamron 28-80mm with a fisheye.

My question is this... What is the difference between the .22X and a .25X fisheye?

I'm guessing that the lenses you are talking about are actualy filters that screw onto the front of another lens. I have never used them, but from what I have seen of them, the quality isn't that good. Most of the time when it comes to cheap lenses, you get what you pay for. There are a few exceptions to that rule tho.

I have a Zenitar MC 16mm fisheye lens I bought several years ago on ebay, and it works great. It's pretty inexpensive compared to some most of the full auto lense out there, but for the price it's a pretty good deal.

This is where my newbness shows. Yes, these would be filters, I guess, since they do exactly what you say.

I would discourage you from buying one of those. I have the Canon 15mm fisheye and it's a very nice lens. However, on a 1.6x crop camera, like your 400D/XTi, it's still not very wide. With the conversion it's comparable to a very distorted 28mm lens. I haven't used mine for years. Right now I have a Tokina 12-24mm lens that works much better than the Canon fisheye. Of course, both lenses cost a lot more than the "fisheye" filters you're looking at. I think the Canon 15mm fisheye cost about $500 and the Tokina 12-24mm lens cost a little over $600, if I remember correctly. Good lenses cost a lot. But they're worth the money!
