Talking Newbies seeks help on lens for Canon 20D

Just purchased a Canon20D w/ 18-55mm lens. Also purchased EF 50mm f/1.8 lens. Way way back in time I owned a film 35mm camera. Gave it up for the digital point and shoot and now I'm back into DSLR. I'm just an average mom who likes to take pix of her sons in sports. (at another time I'll post a question about zoom lenses) But now my situation is this....will be going to Ireland this summer. I could bring my Olympus digital point and shoot (for simplicity and it's lightweight) or I could bring the Canon 20D.

My question is which lens to bring if I decide on the Canon20D. Would the above lenses be sufficient or should I opt for something like 28-135mm, without breaking the bank! Help please!

I use the 28-135 IS as my walking around lens. It works very well and its field of view is no worse than most P&S. But, do you want to lug around a big camera and lens? If the trip is for fun, bring your P&S. If its a photography trip, bring the DSLR.

The Canon 24-85 is a nice, and frequently overlooked, lens for digital cameras. It is very sharp, and very fast for a consumer zoom. I would buy one of those over a 28-135 IS.
