I have a Canon 20D and only have the kit lenses Canon 18-55, Tamron 70-300 f/4 and a new Canon 50mm 1.8. I am looking to upgrade to a better lens to start. I have had the 20D now for a few months and starting to use some of the manual controls. The pictures with the lens that I have, have improved while using manual Control. Little pat on the back here, but I know I have a very long way to go. I shoot a lot of indoor sports. Last night the coaches even let me go under the basketball goal so I could shoot as they were making lay-ups.
I know the Canon L glass would be what I would love. But, someone just mentioned, something about my billfold don't carry $1,000 bills in it. So, I have to settle for something a little less in price. I am also looking into purchasing some strobes from Britelight. So, I have a budget of under $500. Lower if possible but I know the two lenses that I am looking into are both under that budget.
At first, I was looking at the Tamron Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto SP 28-75mm f/2.8. But for few dollars more, there is the Canon 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 EF IS USM.
I read that with IS, that I can use one or two stop smaller. I am wondering if this is true or all hype?
I like the Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 because of the f/stop, but love the fact that the Canon 28-135mm has 50mm more.
I would love your help here.
