Decided to buy kenko tubes.

I just bought the Kenko 12, 20, and 36mm tubes, and I'll have some photo's up with them on my 400L as soon as I get them. Anyone have a set? Can you post some pics? All ive seen have been good results. The only con I've heard is the amount of play with the lens, but since I have my hand on the lens always, its not a big problem for me if it comes undone. I dont want to risk dropping my lens..

The other neg on tubes is it slows your lens down and with the Kenkos, up to three stops, so you don't want to be hurting for light!

I've been doing macro using close up lenses but they have some serious abberations as you move away from the center.

I went to kenkos site and they had examples from a landscape. if the camera can't focus at infinity, I don't see how they get those shots since that is pretty close to infinity. When you get yours post some landscapes if you can take em.

Ok, I saw this little guy this afternoon and I thought of this thread. I stacked all 3 tubes behind my 70-200 and tried it (never used all three before). I think I reached the maximum useable limit on this zoom.

As for your questions, try it - the answers will be readily evident.

No.

The lens focal length stays the same. All it does it move the focus closer in, so you can get closer to the subject. As said on Kenko site, you cant focus at infinity so far objects will be out of focus but now you can stick that lens really close to something.

I can't see tubes useful except for close-up photography...but i have never used them.

To think they are like a 1.4x, 1.7x or 2.x convertor is a fallacy. Those are optical beam expanders.

holy cow these are great, and I got them in 1 day, lol... USPS = my new favorite shipping.

I'll get you some shots tomorrow, I cant wait. It dropped my focal length from 11ft to about 4 1/2 ft. I'm impressed. I'm going to try and improve on this flower tomorrow with these tubes. this shot = 40% crop.

I didnt say it did, but it does draw attention, ok, i'm going to go out and take pictures in a little while. Hopefully these work to my expections. They really do make your picture darker. Hoping for these clouds to be a bit forgiving today.

Glad you finally got it!

You will love the versatility it gives you.

Seeing where that tripod collar is in relationship to the camera, as I stated before on one of your other threads, be extra careful lugging it around attached on a tripod or monopod. With so many more extra mounting surfaces, I'd hate to find out later that you slipped on something and jammed the tripod on the ground and the camera popped off!

Now you need that 1.4 teleconverter to make that 400mm of yours truly fully functional.

In the meantime....

Mmhmm, i dont want the camera to pop off, omg.. I'm thinking about buying a short strap to wrap on the lens and tie to the camera incase that does happen, and have it so I can easily remove it when I want to change lenses. Should be a good way to add some security.

Well heres one. not many interesting subjects, all green and brown in my back yard. I havnt been able to take very good shots with all 3 tubes, heres the 20mm and the 12mm combined.
