Unhappy Canon Digital Rebel XT flash problems

Has anyone had a problem with severe over exposure when shooting in the full auto mode with the pop up flash. I just took about 20 indoor pictures in this mode at 1/60th, F4 and they turned really overexposed. I spoke to a tech at Canon and he of course could not simulate this result on his XT....my daughter took the same shoots with her older digital rebel and got some excellent shots on full auto.

I'd hate to send it in for repair before exploring and other possible fixes out there. Please respond if you can help.

    thanks,

    Joe

hi there, sound like a real problem to me. but, could you tell us what kind flash did you use for your indoor shoot, maybe someone could share some thought. ( the build in one) or ( EX speedlite)

    Hi JT

I am using the pop up flash on the camera. On full auto every shot is over exposed...I tried resetting to the factory defaults but it didnt help. When I put it in manual mode at 125 and 5.6, I get some decent flash shots. On full auto I notice it's at 60 and F4.

Hi Joe...Have you checked to see the flash exposure compensation is set at zero and your camera exposure compensation is set to zero??
Try shooting on "P" mode in autofocus as a test..If that doesn't help send it to the Canon Doctor!!

that is going to be look like this -2...1..^..1...2- for setting the exposure compensation. look in the view finder while pressing the shutter button half way and turn the dial ether to the left or right. in your case I believe to the left and to get there you have to go to menu button to get there. just remenber there is another one call AEB ( auto exposure braketing) and it look somewhat similar to that, try that see if it help

Hi Joe,,,,while depressing the AV button turn the thumbwheel next to the shutter release..To the left for underexposure to the right overexposure..As a starting point have the moving needle in the middle..
