    Basic Lens for Canon EOS 350D

    The camera I received for Christmas came with a zoom but not a basic lens. Any suggestions? There are rebates on these:

    It really depends on what your main photography subject is, what kind of lighting, location(s) and so on. Then consider budget.....can you afford some of these lenses?

    I agree with JSPhoto - we need to know what youi're going to be shooting to be able to give a good recommendation. The zoom lens that came with your camera will likely fit most of your photo needs. The main issues with the low-end Canon kit lens is that the optics aren't that good and the maximum apertures aren't so great. Fifteen-twenty years ago we all bought 50mm primes for our "normal" lens. Now, a 28-80 or digital equivalent zoom is considered normal. The kit lens that comes with your 350D is a normal zoom, if not such a great one. Unless you really want a prime lens, you might be better served with a higher quality zoom lens. I think that's what most of us would recommend. If you do have specific needs, let us know what they are and we'll give you more advice.
