Nikon Coolpix S10 Digital Camera - Press Release

Powerful 10x zoom in a highly portable body, and stylish swivel design for impressive shots from any angle.

Tokyo – Nikon Corporation is pleased to announce the introduction of the COOLPIX S10. Packing powerful imaging performance, 10x zoom capability and a stylish swivel design into compact dimensions, the COOLPIX S10 makes it easy to take great-looking shots from more imaginative angles.

With a distinctive wave-surface design and a high-quality finish, the COOLPIX S10 is attractive as the images it achieves. But even more impressively, the COOLPIX S10 features 6.0-effective megapixel image resolution as well as a built-in 38-380mm (35mm equivalent) 10x Zoom-Nikkor lens – making it easy to compose everything from close portraits to wide-open scenery with fine detail and vivid color. And because the distinctive camera body incorporates a swivel design for the lens, users can set their creativity free, holding the camera overhead to capture action over the crowd or composing from down low to get a different perspective, while the large, bright 2.5-inch LCD with a 170-degree viewing angle lets users frame the shot with accuracy.

With the advantage of VR (Vibration Reduction) capability, the COOLPIX S10 allows users to overcome camera shake to take sharper, more stable pictures in a range of shooting situations. And as the camera offers increased light sensitivity up to impressive ISO 800, users can get great-looking results in lower light without the need for an extended exposure and select much faster shutter speeds when taking pictures of fast-moving subjects.

The COOLPIX S10 additionally features a handy One-touch portrait button that provides direct access to three unique in-camera Nikon image innovations – Face Priority AF* that automatically detects and achieves sharp focus on people’s faces wherever they are in the frame, In-Camera Red-Eye Fix that can automatically overcome the red-eye effect sometimes caused by flash, and Nikon’s D-Lighting that can rescue underexposed images or shots with too much back light. And the COOLPIX S10 takes convenience even further with its supplied lithium battery that can take hundreds of shots on a single charge and PictBridge compatibility that means there’s no need to use a computer at all when printing – just connect the COOLPIX S10 straight to a PictBridge-compatible printer and print directly without delay.

An ample choice of Scene modes makes operation even easier in a wide range of common shooting situations. Simply select the most appropriate mode and the COOLPIX S10 automatically determines and sets the optimum combination of settings. In all there are 15 Scene modes to choose from and 4 of them also feature Scene assist, which helps users to achieve more attractive composition. The COOLPIX S10 also adds new entertainment to photography with Nikon’s Pictmotion function that lets users combine images, movies, music and visual styles for automatically produced audiovisual shows, in-camera. And because the LCD of the COOLPIX S10 has an impressively wide viewing angle of 170 degrees, it’s easy for everyone to gather round and watch Pictmotion shows together.

Like all other cameras in the highly popular COOLPIX range, the COOLPIX S10 also comes complete with Nikon’s exclusive PictureProject software. Powerful, yet exceptionally user-friendly, PictureProject makes it a snap to transfer, organize, edit and share photos with family and friends.

    * Face recognition capability may be limited in some shooting conditions.

Note: Specifications, design, product name, standard accessories, and release schedule may differ by country or area.

    Nikon COOLPIX S10 Feature Highlights

Outstanding 10x zoom and impressive resolution
Incorporating a powerful 10x Zoom-Nikkor lens with a 38-380mm (35mm equivalent) range, the COOLPIX S10 realizes compositional freedom to capture everything from tight portraits to wide-open scenery. And because the lens is set into a distinctive swiveling design, users can take shots from more creative, imaginative angles – holding the camera aloft to take sporting shots over the crowd, for example, or shooting from the hip or close to the ground to get a new and interesting perspective on the scene at hand.

    Nikon VR (Vibration Reduction)
Because the COOLPIX S10 offers Nikon’s effective Image Sensor Shift VR (Vibration Reduction) capability, camera shake is no longer a problem. Easy to activate by pressing the shutter button halfway, it automatically detects and corrects for minor camera shake to produce sharper, more stable shots and is especially useful when shooting in low light or taking handheld macro shots. What’s more, Image Sensor Shift VR even supports faster framing on the LCD.

    Handy One-touch portrait button
The One-touch portrait button gives instant access to three unique Nikon image innovations. Face-priority AF* can automatically find people’s faces in the frame then achieve sharp, satisfying focus on them for crisper, clearer portraits. In-Camera Red-Eye Fix can detect the unwanted effect sometimes caused by flash and compensate for it in-camera. And Nikon’s D-Lighting can rescue images with undesirable exposure by creating a copy with light and detail added where necessary and areas of appropriate exposure left precisely as they are.
    * Face recognition capability may be limited in some shooting conditions.

    Pictmotion in-camera entertainment
Pictmotion brings exciting new in-camera entertainment. Extending photographic enjoyment beyond conventional slideshow functions, it allows users to select their favorite movies and images, decide on a visual style, and then pick one of 5 music files pre-installed in the camera or load new ones* to complement the mood. The COOLPIX S10’s then automatically combines all the aforementioned elements to produce a polished production with transitions between images and movies synchronized to the choice of music.
    * Via PictureProject for Windows only.
