July 7, 2007 John Szarkowski, one time chief curator of photography at MoMA, died in Massachusets. He was 81.
Szarkowski was one the great promoters of art both through his role in bringing the the giants of 20th century photography to the public's attention in his work at MoMA and in his writings. Books of his are considered to be among the standard for writing on photgraphy in the realm of art.
