    Re: Canon 5D Rumors

TechWhack News has posted an article about the upcoming August release of the 5D in Shanghai, and its later October US release:

To try to somewhat substantiate these rumors, people have been pulling meta-data from the pdf that is floating around and matching the author to the same company that designed the euro ad campaign for the 20d and the barcode listed on the pdf tracks back to Canon in Japan.

I have indeed tried this and yes I see Jim Bowes name, with a creation date of 8/8/2005.

    Very Interesting

    Daniel-
Thanks for posting all these links. This camera looks really good. I've been waiting for a new body to replace my 10D and this might be it. I hesitate to count on all the specs and features listed. In the past, the reality of rumored cameras, even when they appear this detailes, is usually different. So I hope no one is getting their expectations up. Usually, a lot of what's written turns out to be true. But usually there are a few details that aren't true.

When are you going to come have some pizza with the Loren, Rebekah, and me? Or do you want to meet and have some tacos. I'm in downtown San Jose, you know...

I'm on my way for the pizza. I heard that you were in San Jose. I am in LA at an internship at the moment but I'll be back to San Jose in a few weeks!

It would be nice if true! However, the images of the 5D I saw were obviously faked. This has happened so many times before. Some people just get a kick out of starting heated rumors!

With a full frame sensor, the price would be very high, way out of the price range of the current 20D.

    Full-frame

    Michael-
I agree that it's very likely the image is faked. But I've been hearing rumors of a full-frame sensor from what I consider very good second-hand sources. I wouldn't put money on it. But I'm not ruling out either. Evem though full-frame sensors have been very expensive, I expect Canon has been putting a lot of effort into bringing down their production prices. Maybe this is the year that they become available at a more reasonable price.

And too bad for those who invested in the small circle digital lenses!

    5D announced

The Canon EOS 5D was announced in Amsterdam a couple of hours ago. 12.8MPix, 24x36 sensor size - for about $3300. Hum. Still not exactly cheap, but I seem to remember that the original 10D was about the same price.

Good god! I can't afford a new camera in the short run but that's the camera that I want, really.
