ArcSoft Releases New Mobile Application -- ArcSoft FunnyFace(TM); Automatically Detects Human Faces in Photos, Changes Expressions to Create Hilarious Effects

BARCELONA, Spain--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 13, 2006--ArcSoft Inc. today announced the release of its ArcSoft FunnyFace(TM) product for mobile phones. It is built on ArcSoft's patent-pending face detection and recognition algorithms. It can automatically detect human faces in photos and lets users change the faces' expression to create hilarious new images based on the original.

The software is available for licensing to multiple handset OEMs and Service Providers around the world and is already shipping on over a million of handsets. With a fully automated process and graphical user interface tailored for mobile phone users, the application utilizes sophisticated facial recognition, feature recognition and face morphing, while still offering an easy and fun user experience on the mobile phone.

According to David Cao, ArcSoft's Director of Mobile Solutions, the latest FunnyFace application can automatically locate faces and recognize human facial features such as eyes, nose, mouth, chin, and jaw within a half second -- improved by 6 times over the previous version -- on a regular 100MHz ARM9 mobile phone. The facial feature data are used to create a geometric model to morph the facial photo into various expressions. The transformed facial image can then be seamlessly merged back into the original picture without any hints of being doctored.

A user can snap a photo of a friend, create a "FunnyFace" and send the fun masterpiece to friends and family. With a variety of funny facial expression models built into the application, FunnyFace can quickly have you smiling, sad, angry, surprised, or even thinner or fatter, with remarkably realistic results. This is the ideal application for the youth mobile market.

FunnyFace is available for ARM7, ARM9 or ARM11 based mobile platforms.
