Post 6.6 megapixel underwater camera press release

DXG INTRODUCES FIRST UNDERWATER DIGITAL CAMERA FOR LESS THAN $139

Compact Digital Camera Features Protective Housing for Active Lifestyle Uses

CITY OF INDUSTRY, Calif., July 6, 2004 – DXG USA, an emerging U.S. brand for digital cameras and a business unit of Taiwan-based DXG Technology Corp., and one of the world’s largest digital camera designers and manufacturers, today announced it will be first to market in the U.S. with a digital underwater camera for less than $139. The DXG-308U digital camera kit is capable of taking remarkable photos at resolutions to 2976 x 2232 (6.6 megapixels), suitable for printed photographs up to 8 x 10 inches and higher, and with its protective enclosure can be submerged up to 5 meters.

The DXG-308U camera’s waterproof housing offers a compact, watertight design for easy underwater handling and accurate access to camera functions through the precise placement of push-button controls on the housing that match up with camera’s controls. With a minimum amount of care, the DXG-308U can provide years of reliable photo-taking pleasure above and below water. This makes the 308U ideal for outdoor activities such as kayaking, sailing, boating, swimming, fishing, backpacking, camping, beach or poolside festivities.

“DXG continues to bring to the U.S. consumer unique digital camera products for everyday use for everyday settings,” said Paul Goldberg, vice president sales and marketing for DXG USA. “The DXG-308U is another example of our insight into consumer needs in digital photography and our ability to meet that need.”

DXG’s cameras are sold through a variety of outlets, including distribution, retail and via the Web. For a listing of resellers, please visit the DXG Website at www.DXG.us. Anyone have experience with waterproof/water resistant digicams?

My husband has been looking for an inexpensive yet still decent digital camera to take on kayaking trips.

Has anyone used the DXG-308U? Thoughts?

I have seen the Pentax Optio but the shape doesn't look too promising as something thar would be comfortable to use...

    Suggestions are appreciated.

I haven't seen more than this post about it, but if it's true, this is exciting!

The web link didn't work for me, though.

I find this fascinating. The ACTUAL megapixels are listed as 3.3, UP TO 6.6. What does that mean? Here's the spec sheet: (PDF format) http://www.dxg.us/data_sheets/308U.pdf
