Agreed. As I'm sure you know, I'm also a big fan of peek-a-boo cropping (I may have just made that term up, heh heh).

IOW, cropping as if you're behind a solid door with a small window viewing the scene. And so, elements of the scene's border will be severed.

It drives some people crazy. Another reason to do it...:D

If someone started a "You. In two sentences" thread that would HAVE to be yours. :)

This is tough to do. Wish I could have two shots. :) I have two different personalities when it comes to photography. One is out in nature trying to find a way to record in a two-dimensional rectangle a feeling of peace that I can't seem to put into words. The other is walking around downtown looking for things that never get a second look, but should. It's nature that got me started. So, here's a shot that comes closer to my goal than most.

I have given this a lot of thought since first seeing the post and making my first response. I'm still not sure I have a particular style. I do a variety of different types of photography sports, nature, macro and street just to name a few. But when I think about how I would prefer people to remember my work I think it comes down to my love of family and documenting the every day life and special events of those I love. With that in mind here is my contribution to this thread.

    This one...
I'd say this one, it combines a lot of thematic, (sports, diptychs) and some technical concepts too, my Holga..
Lot's of great stuff here so far!

    Aren't photographers just great people!
I love all of your styles and yes there are some up there I love more than others but I won't pick one out because each photo has its merits as does each photographer.

That sums it up for me. There are so many different styles on this board, and so many fantastic photographers that execute each one of them so well. You can see anything from a macro of dragonfly eyes to sunrise over the reflecting pools to run down country stores to Lewis Hamilton turning laps and SO much more. And all of them are amazing. That's true talent, and I love seeing all of it. Even if I don't shoot that style myself, I learn from it and appreciate what the photographer can do with it.

So you Greg. If any one on the board has developed a style over the last couple of years it is you and this one exemplifies it.

Well how about 2 shots. For me it is all about the peace and serenity and adventure the outdoors can give one. I will always be working toward relaying that message in my photography

Ooh LOVE that mountain scene Ray.

    Hmmm difficult to say...

If I were to post a "couple" portrait it would be romantic.
If I were to post a "baby" portrait, it would be with a prop, maybe to show scale.

But I think, all in all, I would say THIS is ME...

a natural light portrait. Posed without looking TOO posed if you know what I mean.

Thanks MB. Yeah she has make up on, including foundation but I have photoshopped blemishes etc away.

I find that trying to descibe "me" in one shot is too broad of a subject area. As my life, my equipment, and my mindset change over the years, so does my photography. So here is one of me right now - not five, ten, fifteen years ago, and probably not me five years from now. Just trying to record the small bits of beauty and irony that all too often would otherwise go completely unnoticed.

    1. *sigh* I have to follow these shots?
    2. I myself don't know what is really me (been thinking about that lately).
    3. MB1, I haven't seen that bike shot before and it's very unique. Colors are great!

Oh well, here goes nothing... Water, boats (not a sea kayak though), somewhat monochromatic. I saw this scene one evening several years ago when I didn't have a camera. Had to go back a couple more times to get the right conditions, and a few days later they replaced these rental canoes with bright red plastic ones (that was the end of this shot). Glad I got it when I did! This is a mediocre scan from a Velvia slide, cropped to 8x10 proportions from a submission.

I *love* this thread! I am really just beginning to explore my photographic style. A lot of my friends who offer me constructive critism tell me they like how I capture the moment. I'll look through my pictures and see if I can find the one shot I'm most proud of. What a neat challenge!

    Re: You. In one shot.
Most of my shots are of football in action. However, I think this is my most favorite football shot ever. I love each and everyone one of these boys like my own and one of them is actually mine. I've sold many and got a lot of kudos for it, but even if I didn't I still would love this one the best among the thousands I've shot and sold.

I was tackled on the football field a week before I was to do this Senior shoot & broke my leg. I couldn't walk and for this field could only get there in a wheelchair. I did the whole shoot sitting on the ground. This shot in particular I laid down so my camer was facing straight up and the boys huddled around me. It was a really cool experience and the shot turned out perfect. I'll never forget this day.

It was very upsetting for me to not be able to finish the season. This day more then made up for it.
