A Sad Day for Film Shooters...

Lately I have been feeling the itch to get out and shoot some film. I'm not really sure why, but the urge has been getting stronger and stronger. Plus, I have a few hundred dollars worth of various films still in my freezer.

This desire to shoot also reminded me that I have always wanted to try Kodak's Kodachrome so off to bhphoto.com I went. I did a quick search and much to my surprise, they had some in stock. I truly was shocked since Kodachrome has been on the discontinued list for a while now. I immediately added it to my cart, then decide to make it two rolls despite the $16.95 price tag. At that point my browser alerted me that the quantity selected exceeded the stores inventory so I went back to the quantity of one roll and clicked "Checkout".

After the process was finished, I did another search for Kodachrome and this time the results showed the product as "Discontinued". It appears as if I just purchased the very last roll of Kodachrome that B&H will ever sell...

I will definitely be saving the roll for my Iceland trip. And I don't even want to think about how much processing is going to cost me.. lol

Just remember to get it off to Dwayne's Photo before the end of the year! I'm taking one of my last two rolls with me tomorrow, the second is being saved until June for another special trip.

Congratulations on getting B&H's last roll of Kodachrome! Now the question is, do you really want to shoot it?

This reminds me. I still have some Kodachrome in the freezer. I may have to defrost it this weekend, before it's too late to get developed.

Ebay still has a lot of it up for bids, but most of it is really old. One lot expired in '97.. Even if it was frozen all that time, I'm still a little concerned it will be way past its prime.

Re: A Sad Day for Film Shooters...

Be sure to post in the film forum your final Kodachromes.

There's been some talk among the last K-shooters I know that a surge in Kodachrome use may deplete the remaining chemical supplies earlier than expected, so check before shooting anything too important. There's few alternatives to get it to look right.

Check with Dwayne's to see if they will accept film after a certain date or not, or if December 2010 is when they shut down the line once and for all.

Feel free to 'Show your Kodachrome'!
