My two choices would be Denver and Alburqurque/Santa Fe.

Both have great cities and landscapes. Santa Fe's high desert is one place that I would want to live.

I'd be there. Sounds really cool.

I've been hoping someone would start some type of East Coast gathering for quite some time so that I could meet some of you. I guess we're just not as social as the folks in the central and west sections of the country.:(

    Hey Nat

One thing I would reccommend is keeping the momentum going by posting a "location" poll sooner than later. I would hate to see the momentum die, and there's been a great response so far...

Gene, is there any way we can post that map in this thread? That might be helpful.

Well, looks like interest in AZ is low... :( New Mexico is close for me, which is nice. Denver is also a doable day drive. Now Miami sounds fun, I have never been there, and I'd love to go. It does not fit the "central" criterion very well, however.

Hey, just another thought: Why don't we make this a yearly gathering, and hit a new location every year? That way we all get to see the country and shoot in a new place every year. Just a thought...

Still voting for Nashville. If Sebastian can drive, so can I.

Perhaps I'd even bring the spouse! Depends, we are hitting the Bahamas in June!

My daughter lives just south of Nashville and she may be able to give us some good photo opportunity's in Nashville and places to stay. She post here as Pepper523. I'll try and light a fire under her and get her post a few ideas.

Unless it is in the 'other side of the world' it's just not sensible to me to spend approx $5000 on a weekender! We were looking at coming over next year but we bought super dooper cheap tickets to Bangkok instead. It'll be 2008 before we consider another OS trip as a family outing like this will be in excess of $10000. I would love to consider it in 2008, maybe somwhere like California, Disneyland???

You can count me in. Place doesn't matter just as long as the timing is right. And just like Sebastian and Adina said if it's south I can drive down which can be better for me.

I'm born and raised in California and I don't know much about the other cities/states mentioned. For those of us in the dark, maybe it would be nice to sell the location idea as Rick did in an earlier post:

Pictures or links would be nice....

    I still vote for ARIZONA!!

or Loupey's local park where he shoots all those bugs! Hehehehhehe....

Rick's top 10, huh? Hey, I went to public schools and even I can count. Makes me worried about going down there. All that heat does funny things to you... :D

Seriously, I've never been to Phoenix but it's kinda been "on the list". Hopefully wherever we plan to go it could be late fall or early spring - easy times to get away at least for me. That would mean somewhere south of here and Nashville would work. I'll put in a vote for that one too because of driving distance. I've been there twice but it's been several years. Is anyone from Nashville or at least knows it very well? I think it would be good to have at least one person who knows the area well.

watched a program the other night .. top 10 places to see in america ....

redwood forest, yosemity national park , arches , grand canyon (#1) .... alot of cool places out that way ....

but as stated earlier in the thread ... depends what everyone wants out of a gathering ... photo ops ? cool place to meet and greet ? workshops ?

being new to the hobby (at least that is what it is for me) I am more interested in how to do ....

Yes, it's true, the west is the best :D

I have lived on both coasts, and now reside in the desert southwest, and I have to say that the beauty in the western parts of the country is unmatched in the east.

The really cool thing is, the redwood forests are only a few hours from Yosemite, and Arches and Grand Canyon are maybe a half-day drive apart...

A free naked tap dance (or Napoleon Dynamite dance) to the first 7 people who book their reservations!

Okay, just kidding, I guess we'll do it the democratic way.

    Gosh.

I would be very interested in attending IF everyone decides on ARIZONA as the location. If Rick's photos aren't enough to convince everyone, then ya'll got problems. :out: I assure you it it has nothing to do with my being only a few hours drive away.

Oh, and Rick you did say you'd cook BBQ for us, right?

Thanks Ray. I believe you when you say that just because you live 2 hours from the Arizona border it has nothing to do with your vote

Oh, and I didn't promise BBQ, but I'll bet we could talk Brian into it again!

Yeah, I'd like to check out Nashville, too (I remember your music connections there, no?).

Actually, I have two ex-girlfriends living in Tennessee. No, they both still love me (if they didn't, they would have moved a lot farther away!). I wouldn't mind making side trips to see them, too.

Sounds like it would be fun. Still, to call it a National Gathering would be silly... :out:

IMO ALL gatherings are national. ALL gatherings are regional...

Haha. Nah, I was living in Miami when I dated them. BTW, aside from the fact that I don't wear (or hang) hats much anymore, it's been over a year and a half since I've even been to South Florida... :cryin:

I just want to do my part to keep the momentum going, so I'm going to make a crazy suggestion. How about Gatlinburg?

Anyone know anything about Gatlinburg? I've never been there, but...It looks nice, it's centrally located (sorta) and it's close to the Great Smoky Mountains. There seems to be a lot to do there. If we go in October, the trees will be changing colors, making for some great scenery. People could even camp out to save money.
