An added benefit of the gathering.. a lost roll found..

When I was gathering my film for developing, I found a roll of Velvia in my case... It was a roll from my last trip to Montana.

These two stuck out and I did a 2 min scan and edit job so they are not final...I was sure happy to see them..

I have found long lost rolls of film, but when I developed them I usually remember why I was slow to develop in the first place. The images are not very memorable.

Yes...we just got our second ultrasound back and everything looks great. Amazing to see the little heart beat.

We had been pregnant before, but it didn't work out so we are even more estactic that it's going well.

It's very exciting.

I don't think I've ever lost a roll of film. If I have, it's still lost. I would never loose a roll with shots this good on it though...probably because I haven't taken any this good.

These are awesome photos! They make me want to wake up early and go out in the cold.

Love the shots. Can almost feel the cool crisp air as if there.

I like finidng and developing lost rolls cuz it is usually of past family events. We love to see how everyone looked 4 Thanksgivings ago. Yes, it can be very very lost. Unfortunately, the prints come out pretty bad since the film wasn't kept well, being lost and all.

Lost a roll of film and found it later buried in the bag once too, but mine didn't have great results on it like this! Nice work - and congrats to the two of you!

An added benefit of cleaning up my office turned up a roll of film for me too. I must have shot it way back in the Philippines with my wife's plastic Cameo 35mm. I'd be surprised if it turned out to be something else.

I wanted to say thanks for the comments and I am always surprised that people might actually like my work... Thanks again for those who responded..

I guess the disadvantage of having three or four photo bags is that you can misplace them. I have a habit of tucking away a precious roll of film...I'm just glad I didn't throw it away.


For those who might care.. my technique is as follows.


I have a light meter and I take a reading from the ground and that is my base exposure. I then use a three stop graduated ND filter to balance out the top and the bottom. To be more precise you can take a meter reading of the brightest spot and then use that to calculate how many stops of ND filter that you might need. I am still in awe of those photographers that could get so much sharpness in the foreground, ala Galen Rowell.

The film was Provia, and the camera was a Nikon F6. I also bracketd 5 stops plus or minus 1/3 since I knew that the light was fleeting I couldn't take a risk.

Wow, now that's a professional at work! I guessed these were Velvia Loren, just from the colors. Glad to see Provia can pull through with colors like these.

I am really interested to hear that you used a 3-stop graded ND filter. I have to order my ND filter still, I never considered I might have use for a 3-stop!

Don't feel bad about the sharp forgrounds. Don't those guys use LF and tilt the film plane?

If you have to order any ND filter, get a 2 stop ND filter. I use it 90% of the time. Only when I shoot into the sun do I use the 3 stop.

Well Galeen used 35mm which is hard to believe how he did it, but most of them do use LF and with rear tilt.

Last night I found my large format camera, an used Toyo 45AII so I will be shooting LF film in the near future. Cannot wait to see Provia 4x5 negatives!!!
