What photo related products did you purchase lately?

    Hi everyone!

It's been a long time since I last posted on this forum, but I was extremely busy with my work. Even my XTi had an extended vacation because of this.

Anyway, I thought it would be great to find out what people are buying for their photo passion. This topic idea came after I purchased a 430EX flash yesterday and thought it would be a great idea to find out what others are buying. It's a good opportunity to share this info with others in doubt (about what to buy). Maybe some details like the price, the shop you bought the product would be nice to have here.

I'm really impressed by this flash, it's like I change my lenses. It's all so different now. This was money well spent. It's used, but looks and works like new. All original accesories included. I payed 200$ for it here in Romania.

All I have to do now is read the manual.

So, if you agree with me, let's fill this topic.

Just this week I ordered a small softbox for my flash, some cotton gloves and an anti static tiger cloth to use when framing prints. I also ordered a 12" collapsable reflector to carry in my camera bag.

    Radio control

Two weeks ago I bought a radio control so I can more easily do self-portraits on the D200. I realised that I now have quite a large number of sites (like this one) and I need an avatar for each one.

This morning I bought the Manuel Alvarez Bravo book "Photopoesie". I like his stuff and the monologue is a good collection. It will go next to my Edward Weston and Ansel Adams books.

Re: What photo related products did you purchase lately?

Hmm, well to start from the top:

1933 Zeiss Ikon Nettar 515/2 - I had been looking at antique folding cameras on eBay, just for kicks, and wanted one I could shoot every once and a while. I found this baby for just $17 w/ shipping; even I couldn't pass that up. The body's a little banged up, but everything functions perfectly. The lens looks fairly clear, but the jury is out on that till I see the film. It shoots 6x9cm negatives on 120 film.

Not the greatest photo in the world, but this is it.

Quantaray DSZ PZ-1 Flash: I've been looking into off camera flash, and just about stole this unit on eBay. It's basically a 430EX minus E-TTL, but plus an optical flash trigger. So it's got all the fancy LCD rear panel controls, powered zoom head from 24-105mm, GN138' at 105mm ISO100. It will work in the hot shoe with the E-TTL contacts taped over, and the best part is the camera won't limit the sync, so I can get 1/250 without any curtain problems. Very nice little bonus that. Of course it's manual-only operation though. Anyway, its main purpose will be as an off camera optical slave.

In use: there's no ambient in this room; completely dark. The flash lit the whole room at 1/4 power and 80mm zoom (camera: f/5, 1/200, ISO200).

To accompany that, I've also gotten from eBay (but not yet received) a Sunpak 333D and D-8P radio transmitter/trigger. The radio transmitter will of course go on the camera hotshoe, the radio receiver will mount to the 333D and trigger it, which will in turn trigger the PZ-1 optically. Got all that? Haha, not sure I do! Anyway, that (should) be a pretty decent off camera setup, all for just a touch over $100. Gotta love eBay!

That would be my Sigma 10-20mm lens. Before that was my D300.

Next major purchase, I'm thinking studio strobes or a good fast telephoto lens.

Have a Nikon 50mm 1.4 on the way from Adorama as well as a couple Kingston 266X 2gb CF cards for use as backups (at $13ea I made the gamble to see if they're any good)

I bought a Hoya UV(0) 77mm Filter today after my junk clear filter broke when I sat my camera with lens attached on a table. Merry Christmas to me, and it helps to keep my insurance down (40 dollars = cheaper than a new 80-200mm f/2.8 lens).

About 6 weeks ago I purchased the Panasonic LX3 which I consider still new since I've had little time to use it as of late. This is a busy season for me as for many of us, but I'm really looking forward to having fun with it at Christmas time.

8x Memorex AA rechargeable batteries, 2700mAh. 4 go in my new purchased 480EX and the other 4 will go in my Canon A620. Payed 29$ for all. I'll see how good they are.

Hahnemuhle matte paper sample pack and a can of matte paper spray. I'm saving up for a Canon 180 mm macro lens and I will probably buy a flash diffuser after Christmas, if I don't get one at Christmas (was on the list). HTH.

For me it was Neat Image+ to finish out my post processing. My mother is actually buying it for me for Christmas, but I already have it up and running. She can give me an empty box Christmas day and I'll pretend to be surprised.
