    or this http://www.agf.gov.bc.ca/cropprot/weedguid/bugloss.htm

Maybe seeing the whole thing would make it easier to identify, just cutting of part of the stems makes it a bit hard.

I don't think it is the one Lara said though.

thanks for the reply...the weed is that size snipped from the root about 1.5 inch long and they lay really low in the grass and only grow about 1.5inch in height.

I'm no horticulturalist, so keep that in mind...
After some quick looking, I think you've got what my Audubon wildflowers field guide calls "creeping charlie" or "ground ivy." Glechoma hederacea. They say: "In many areas this aggressive European native is now considered a lawn weed. If consumed in large amounts, it is toxic to horses."
Do an image search for "ground ivy"- I did and I came up with plants that look pretty darn similar. It apears on a lot of noxious weeds lists and invasive plant sites. Sounds like you should get rid of that stuff...
"We've all been raised by television to believe that one day we'll all be millionaires and movie gods and rock stars -- but we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact. And we're very, very pissed off."

Creeping Charlie is right. It's a 'good' year for it. The first application od Weed-B-Gone Max has knocked it back some. It may need another application. I think there is a more specific herbicide for it but I'm also after Danelions, Plantain, Clover, and a few others.
I seem to be pretty good at growing anything but grass. Two hobbies I want to give up in retirement are mowing grass and shoveling snow.
