    Wedding 07/22/2006
Well, on 07/22/2006, I shot a "wedding of sorts" for a couple of friends. I planned to do the gig 'pro-bono'; however, they managed to slip me some money. It kind of worked out well because of equipment issues going on around the same time, previous post.

Anyway, I am slowly going through the 500+ photos to find the real keepers. I thought this pic described exactly how the wedding was without actually showing people. I guess I got creative.

I'll post more pix as I get them ready and processed. I'm kind of sad with my results and am debating whether or not I should give the $$$ back. I didn't really want to accept it in th efirst place!

Tell me what you think!

umm nothing says getting hitched like a good ole can of budweiser! should of at least been a good cheep beer like PBR :-)

i like the shot though very simple, and if it signifys the wedding, use it. as far as money goes, i wouldn't try to give it back just due to the fact that you already accepted it. should have refused it in the first place :-) j/k i can just be really stuborn about that kind of stuff.

Dylan-I was trying to be really stubborn about the money. We are really good friends so I hid it in her things at work. She found it and hid it in my things. this went on and one for a couple weeks. Then she called me and asked for my bank name and acct number so she could have it deposited. I finally gave up. I haven't cashed it yet though. She is complaining and said she's gonna cancel the check and give me cash so it's done and over with. I think I will take some of it and buy them a nice big print (and hide the rest of the cash in the print somewhere). then give it back to them.

I posted this print merely because it summed up the two and their families; plus I thought it was fun and clever. I have other more "traditional" wedding photos. I'll post 'em up soon to see what you guys think.

if you hide it just make sure it is somewhere they will eventually find it. cause its better for you to keep it, than be found 100 years from now by their grand kids to go buy a stick of gum.

I think it's funny that you're editing down from 500 shots. :) I just finished two edits where I edited down to 500 shots for each of the couples... :)

In all seriousness, you did a really nice job. Good balance between close-up details and wider story telling shots. My only crit is the makeup shots are kinda dark. Seems like you tried to maintain details in the windows. I would say don't worry about it, blown out areas can actually add a lot to the mood of these. You will find yourself having to trade off between shadow and highlight detail often. You just have to decide what's more important, the stuff in the shadow, or the rest. In these cases, I want to see the detail in the shadows and don't care much about the wall. :) Hope that makes sense...?

No matter what, you did well, I'm sure they'll be happy.

sebastien thanks for the critique. It's funny I expected to take 700-1000 shots, but the couple did such a small gathering and celebration that I found it really hard to take that many shots. Plus it felt as though it was 110* outside that day.

Thanks I worked really hard on these shots. Some are totally screwed and I'm trying to find ways to save them.

I was just giving you a hard time. Both of the wedding I shot were all-day affairs, plus it doesn't matter how much you shoot, just that you cover the day as best as you can. :)

Here's one more photo. I tried to get kind of a cross-processed look to it. I'll keep adding photos, but for bandwidth's sake and the sake of annoying all of you I will add them to my photo gallery.

    Dave,

Let me know when they're up in the gallery, I'd love to see the whole wedding as well if you get it up.

Haha that's how I shoot! A little black & white here, a soft glow there. Maybe a litlte high contrast on this one :D

I like what I see. I agree with Seb that on my monitor a few look a little dark. Also the selective color seems that you just did selective color because you could. Try to find images that lend themselves to selective color and more suttle. That's my two cents....and they're worth only about two cents :p
