Wasatch Glory

This is the sunset I was waiting for last week. I wish there were some clouds in the sky but I shouldn't complain. The air is clean, there's a nice frosting of new snow on the peaks and trees, and the light was beautiful. The street shot was taken just one block over from my street. I just grabbed the camera, put on a jacket and marched up the street in time for the sunset. Pretty nice, huh? :)

These were both taken with the Olympus E-P2 Micro Four Thirds camera and the Olympus 40-150mm f/4-5.6 Four Thirds lens with Micro Four Thirds adapter. I was pushing it, but I didn't use a tripod - just the camera's built-in sensor-shift image stabilization.

Yeah it is! It's about 7000 feet higher than my house :D

We have a big rock at the end of our street but can only see it if I stand just right and peer through some trees.
Glad you are posting some of your beautiful landscapes. I like them both but #2 is my fav.

It constantly amazes me. It's very inspiring. In the winter, I find myself anxiously waiting to see what the light is going to be like in the evening. I probably go out for sunset photos a couple times a week. These are all taken facing east, in case no one realized it. I rarely shoot into the sunset here - it's all about the alpenglow reflection from the sunset on the west-facing Wasatch.

John have you had much time with the Olympus E-P2 Micro Four Thirds camera?
I checked the link you posted, the video was very helpful.
My main questions. Does it feel rugged? Is this a camera you would take on a skiing adventure?

Between the E-P1 and E-P2 I've used it quite a bit. Why don't you start a new thread on the Olympus forum? I think that would be a better place and it would be good for that forum :)

as w.salyman mentioned , ask the power co. to move the lines underground :)
also ask the neighbors to park the cars in the back because you never know when you may be shooting a new photo

That's the one! If I stand in a certain place in my backyard, I can see the very top of it.
Its all up hill from here to there. Probably about 10 miles to the park boundry as the crow flies.

Great fog bank or clouds hanging on the edge of the mountain with the peak clear and sunlit!

I've rocks out in front of my house. They're called gravel. Bummer.

There's a price to pay for those mountains. There's a nasty inversion here in the winter. Unless we get regular snow, wind or rain, the air is really horrible. I'm just getting over a vicious cough after a two week period without any snow.

That is an awesome piece of landscape to have at the end of your block! i would imagine it looks different at every hour of every day of the year through the seasons as the suns angle is always different on it.

It's a nice shot, but just a question: for a canonical light seeker would half an hour earlier or so not have been better?

Nope. I was shooting a half hour earlier. It's not really better - just different. There's more contrast and less color. There's probably a ten minute difference between the two photos I posted, too. That alpenglow color only comes for a few minutes, just as the sun goes down. The best is when there are some clouds in the west for the light to bounce off of after it's already below the horizon. But that's harder to come by. Here's an example. It's different every time. There are so many variables that it's exciting to keep trying again :)

It is amazing with the difference of a few minutes what you can catch. At my sister's house Frogs rock is all way putting on a show!

Wow! Beautiful images. It must be inspiring to be able to look down (or up) the street to this view every day.

The Oly's did a great job! Do you use the EP2 much more than the EP1? which do you prefer?

pic #2- i have a similar view of lone peak from my back deck but have some power lines in the way also.

The inversion is already back to nasty. Hope the next storm cleans things up. The crud made its way clear up to Alta today :(

Yes, I have been skiing. Not as much as last year, but I'm not doing too bad. My dad and brother are visiting and we hit Snowbasin on Wednesday, Alta today and we'll be at Solitude tomorrow. Gotta get out and do more hiking, though!

wow, both stunning, I like them both equally for different reasons. The light in the first one is incredible. IS lens ( I know yours is built in the camera) is looking better to me all the time lol
