    Want to be a Moderator?

Do you love PhotographyREVIEW.com and PCPhotoREVIEW.com? Are you on the forums, reviews, and galleries all the time? Do you want to play a larger part in the life of the sites? Become a moderator! We could really use your help. Right now I need help for the digital cameras forums, the News and Rumors page, the reviews, and if you have an idea for something you'd like to help with, just let me know. For instance, if someone wanted to create and maintain an FAQ and best threads directory for the forums, I would happily build that page.

What do you get in return? My eternal gratitude, fame, the adoration of your peers on PCPhotoREVIEW.com and PhotographyREVIEW.com, and the personal satisfaction of knowing you're playing an important part in this community. Each moderator also gets their own custom profile page, like ViewFinder's co-moderator, another view.

Even if you aren't interested in being a moderator, everyone can contribute a little by replying to questions on the forums - especially in the Digital Cameras and Digital SLRs forums. Those two forums can always use more people sharing their opinions, experience, and advice.

If you're interested in being a moderator, PM me and tell me what interests you and why you think you're qualified . Thanks!

    Not only that...

...there's a super secret Moderators Forum. We "mods" get special glasses so only we can see it.

On the Mod Forum we get to talk about all the members behind their backs and cool stuff like that.

Well, ok, we don't discuss ALL the members, just the TROUBLEMAKERS.

    You know who you are...

And best of all, if you become a Moderator, you can legally change your pr.com "user title" and posting signature to reflect your new status and power... ;)

Of course, the downside is you'll have to start kissing up to Photo John and Lara to get them to do things for you in your forum and on the site (heh heh, just kidding guys!).

    Hey Photo John,

I'd help you out but with my school sports website, Indiana high school basketball forum and shooting sports I don't have much time left over. Things start picking up tonight as high school football kicks off.....and school starts soon too!

Ok, ok, I'd better duck out of this discussion before I get in too deep. There is no way to match our amazing ladies up with their CA counterparts and NOT get into hot water...

Yeah, it took a while, but I think I've got it down. For me, the really hard part is standing on one leg with the other behind your head. Then to have to quickly jump to the other leg and put the first one behind your head.

Anyway, one of these days, if I ever get to meet another moderator, maybe I'll finally get to use it... ;)

    Re: Don't Forget!

Thanks Brian! You made my day!

Yes, being a moderator is a fun job with good pay.

It is a fun job - and the "pay" is great because everyone gets along really well, and you never feel "alone" around here. I've made some good friends, met other moderators - but not enough of them, yet!

What I like best about being a moderator is the fact that the moderators work together to try to encourage, support and affirm all members. Everything is discussed in a professional way - but we also have some great fun discussions too - always looking toward the good of the members and PR in general.

Oh btw! We have a great boss too!

    Re: Don't Forget!

my mommy never let me watch Charlie's Angels so I don't know who they are, aside from their publicity. I do know that "Farrah hair" was all the rage when I was in middle school, but I could never achieve it.

SO. One thing you haven't mentioned here is, what are the duties of a moderator, aside from having fun and practicing the contortionist handshake (or shall I say "bodyshake", as ASteve described it)?

    Well...

    Basically, you "watch" your forum.
You watch for spam, unruly and inapropriate and negative posts.
You kind of act as the leader of that particular forum and communicate with John and Lara and the rest of us too.
If you are wondering about a time commitment, that's up to you, how much more time you want to spend here above and beyond what you already do.
It doesn't require that much more, if any, time above and beyond what you probably do already.
Hope this helps, John will chime in with more.

Re: Want to be a Moderator?

Brian, which Steve are you callin' a number 2? ;)

Kelly, it's great that you're thinking about it. However that would mean that we couldn't talk about you in the Moderator's Forum anymore. Seriously, the job is what you want it to be. Everybody has other stuff going on and sometimes there is more time to spend on the site than others. It's a matter of reading posts and taking action if you think it's necessary (i.e. spam, duplicate posts, etc). It's the etc. part that can get tricky though. A few days off isn't a problem. I've been gone for almost a week and just got back today. I just let everyone know so that they can help keep an eye out. We can talk about it at the Crystal Lake Pizzapalooza if you're still planning on coming.

    Talking Re: Just to add

It also depends on which forum you are moderating. One important aspect is assuring tht the posts are replied to. Some forums have more "same ol same ol" questions and it can be time consuming. Digital Camera forum for instance for obvious reasons brings a lot of basic questions about choice of cameras, how to use them and "I just got my first digital camera" so it does take patience at times. But we have to remember that newbies are so excited about their new digital camera, and we were there not too long ago. Also, it's important to remember that each person is an individual and most are eager to learn.

I try to recall how I was before I got an SLR. I was looking for a P&S, but because people here took the time to encourage me to get an SLR that I did - and to be honest, I've learned most of what I know now about photography because people here helped me. A good thing to remember is - what kind of response would I want if I were asking this question.

Also, I find it good working with 2 moderators - and sharing the experience. It's such a good feeling to know that Steve is there. He's basically taken on the "head VF moderator" because I'm not here as much as I used to be. We work very well together.

    Just my 2 cents.

    Liz

    And...

Basically, you just "guide the conversations"
Make sure things are on topic to that particular forum. Which isn't all that hard to do here, we have a good community here that knows what's appropriate and what not.
