Walking in a Winter wonderland :)

Woohoo, all kinds of fresh snow today. Went out for a nice little hike through the woods. Here's a few shots from the outing. These were all shot with the Rolleicord and Plus-X.

Now I'm tempted to dust off my old ricohflex and some tri-x. At least I don't have to worry about freezing in the snow.

Freezing? Who's freezing? A thermal layer and then some Gore-Tex shells and you're good to go :thumbsup: Crap, I was sweating half the time...LOL

Cool shots, Aaron. I really like that last one. Wish we had some snow to shoot around here. I'm going to Colorado in a couple of weeks and I'm a little nervous about exposing correctly for the snow, because I've never really shot in the snow. Got any tips for me? :D

Tips? :eek: Ahhh, be careful not to blowout the snow? :o ...LOL This was only my second time shooting snow with film and my first serious attempt. I shot Plus-X 125 at 64. The given time for dilution H at 68 degrees would be 7 minutes. I underdeveloped it, going only 6min 15sec. I did loose a bit of the contrast you would expect in a shot like this. Added a bit in Lightroom and could easily add some more. I have no darkroom experience, so I don't like processing too much but I would imagine you could easily bring back the contrasting while making prints. This was completely overcast flat light. Having to do it over, might even cut development a hair shorter, maybe 6 minutes??? in an effort to try and capture more texture in the snow. These were shot unfiltered and I would imagine a polarizer would help out. Other than that, I'm not sure, though I imagine I will be getting plenty of practice in the months to come :D

How did you meter? Did you just set it for 64 ISO and go with the meter's suggestions or did you compensate under or over? I guess I'll be bracketing. :D

Looks like your development came out pretty good, but it's hard to tell how much detail is really in the snow, looking at my monitor. This is definitely high contrast subject matter.

I used a Gossen Luna Pro S set to ISO 64 and I metered for the shadows/trees. There is a bit more texture in the snow in the negatives, especially around the edges of the trees and water, though there was still plenty of room for improvement. I also did +/-1 stop bracketing but, my original exposures were the ones I ended up choosing in the end though.

Looks like a white Christmas is in store for you. My favorite's # 1 but I maybe it could be a little wider.

I miss these type shots. I think I'll head out to the mountains this winter and get back into it.

Thanks G :) Trust me, I was wishing for a wider angle. Shots 1 - 3 were shot off trail so I had to try and make the best of the fixed focal length and the limited space to back up for wider shots :(

Thanks Walter :D It's getting there. I'm getting better all the time at capturing more and more detail in my negatives. Now I just need to get a darkroom set-up going so I can bring it all full circle.
