UK Get together
Okay time for another meeting of the Brits
Does anyone fancy a meeting in December perhaps Saturday 2nd?
or would you prefer a January meeting?
Locations at the moment are:
Barnes Wildlife centre in London or if the weather is lousy which it probably will be I had thought of Hampton Court Palace but photography is not permitted inside and its the same in all the palaces. So any suggestions for an alternative indoor centre would be appreciated.

Re: UK Get together
Hi Roger .. Saturday is the 1st, but the only Sat I could do in Dec is the 8th (it is a very busy month for me). Having said that, if the 2nd suits everyone else, then go ahead - I can always join you in another one in the new year.
I got your PM - it would be great to have you there. I will give you a bell in a week or so to sort out details.
Cheers

Re: UK Get together
The alternative will be Kew Gardens - If people are interested I will request permission for tripods and photography.

Re: UK Get together
Kew would be good - lots of indoor stuff in the event of rain, and there is no end of things to photograph.

Bu all depends on Mrs W's surgery, Angie goes in on Thursday.
-
Re: UK Get together
OK, Angie's recovering well.
I'm on for Kew or whatever.

Re: UK Get together
Me too! It's in the diary :)
The other thing about Kew is that it has the big Henry Moore exhibition going at the moment - you can see details on their website.

Re: UK Get together
I'd love to but am not a lover of going into the centre of London plus it's a bit too close to Christmas for me. Sorry AGAIN!

Mike,
I was thinking of a visit to Dunguness in May, there is a wildlife reserve there + the old power station, lighthouse, the Romney Hythe railway and a few other things.

I will be talking to Kew this week to make sure that they can take four photographers. So I will confirm the 8th and times towards the end of the week.

Here are the details for the Kew Gardens visit on the 8th December 2007
Meet at 10:00am at the White Peak's restaurant for coffee before we start with the photography stuff. The Gardens open at 09:30.
Entry cost Adult £12.25
Car Park at the Brentford Gate: £5.00 - White Peaks is just inside this entrance.
We are allowed to use tripods and monopods in the Gardens but not in the Glass house.
There are three eating establishments in Kew and I suggest that we pick one to eat at when we get hungry.
I made the assumption that no one will want a commercial license. If so then you need to apply by calling Tel: +44 (0)20 8332 5655.

Re: UK Get together
Anyone up for a trip to the Farne Isles in the spring summer?
Probably will travel one day to Bamburgh, stay over night trip to Farne for the day, then travel home or stay another night and then home?
If enough people are interested I will research lodging, cost of the trip, transport, food, ...

Re: UK Get together
Hi Roger .. I might be interested. My problem is that I will probably be moving next year at around that time. However, the settlement process in my profession is sometimes very uncertain and time consuming. Keep me in mind as a "possible" though.
Thanks
Mike

Re: UK Get together
Yes, count me in, it's probably my question that started it all :D

Ah, I finally located this post. Thanks, Roger.
I might be able to meet up with you folks. We have some friends in Belgium that we need to see so we might be able to add this to the itinerary if the timing is right. Please keep us posted.

Yep; I could be well up for that one. Make sure you have hard hats for the Isles as them there birds have been known to attack from all sides at the sight of a lens. Brilliant coastline though.

From initial research - hard hats are included in the boat trip.
The cost of the boat trip is about £15-25 depnding of the tour we choose, 2007 prices. The photography one gives us 2 hours on one of the islands and 2 hours on another so its a full day trip to the islands. There are shorter trips around the islands and 1 hour on one of them.
Lodging I think a budget of £50 per night might be in order but will look closer at this next year once the new prices have been set. Then transport to the port.
I am prepared to drive if someone wants to share a car.

Re: UK Get together
Yes, checked the commercial licence cost, £75 per day.
Judging by the weather forecast, it may not be worth it.
I think I'll treat our outing as a scouting trip and put in agency photos when the light is better.

Does that mean you're going Paul? Yes the weather looks as though it's going to be crap but we can always cheat afterwards:)
Overbeyond is still game!
So how many is that in total; 275?
-
Re: UK Get together
Yes, I'm still game.
Must remember to charge the batteries :o
With the commercial licence you are allowed to use tripods in the glasshouses, providing you consider other visitors. And if you arrive early, you might even get parking.
-
Re: UK Get together
Enjoy the day, guys! Sorry I can't be there - Roger knows all the details.
Re the possibility of a night shoot in London. The tree is up and the lights go on, I think, tonight. How would next Friday suit?
Cheers

Re: UK Get together
