Turn VR off on tripod

OK, I'm an idiot. They warned me when I bought the lens. They warned me when I bought the tripod. And yet apparently I don't listen.

For the second time I have attempted to shoot night time shots and discovered after shooting for 2 hours that I had failed to turn off the VR function on my Nikon zoom lens. This discovery came at about midnight and my batteries had just expired. Arrgh. I had a couple of nice shots I'll have to reshoot.

I nominate myself for stupid move of the week.

I drove 20 miles to catch a sunset and discovered I'd left my sd card in the card reader and didn't have a spare with me.
I do think that to avoid your problem in the future that you should send the lens to me so you can't make that mistake again. ;-)

I would be interested in seeing a couple of pictures. What effect did leaving it own have? Jeff

Frog, must I send you both my VR lenses? I mean, I might make the mistake with either one of them in the future.

Grandpa, as you may know the VR function seeks to eliminate motion so when the tripod freezes all vibration, the VR function creates it with a small amount of shake, bluring the pictures.

Here are some of the shots without much editing.

Any thoughts?

Thanks for your posting information about the VR lens. I am purchasing one shortly and that is good to know about turning off the VR when using a tripod. The article I found told about turning off the VR feature and also suggested leaving it off unless you need it to conserve battery power. I have never had a VR lens so this is good to know, Thanks Jeff
