Tree Pics?

The other day Janie posted a pic of one of her favorite trees and I got to wondering how many of us have those? If you have one (some?) why not post them here?

Here's an old oak that was blown apart some years back in a storm and is re establishing itself. I hope to get pics of it through the seasons.

Well, not my favorite tree, but this tree shot was one my my assignments last year for photography class on depth of field.

I found it in Colorado the morning after camping in the Mesa Verde Nat'l Forest. I took this one pic and then moved along.

Let me mention that my original favorite tree was down the street from me but literally floated away in a storm (You can see it floating away behind me, which I noticed AFTER this pic was taken (me in blue jacket)):

Were you out playing in the weather during a Hurricane, or what?!

LMAO Of course I was! I'm a nut that loves storms! Besides, that storm was just beginning - that tree was the first to go - next thing you know the people on the next block were leaving their houses on surf boards! The boats at the marina were capsizing and since my house is one of the few on a hill, we just had a lot of horseshoe crabs in the basement! ;)

I love thunderstorms! I love watching the lightning light up the sky. Unfortunately, most of the time when it's lightning, it's pouring rain as well, so it's hard to get lightning shots.

We rarely get tornado's around here, but we do get some, and I'm dying to get some shots of one. The last time one was reported on the radio, I headed for it! Never saw it, but it wasn't from lack of trying. :-O

Hurricanes are another animal altogether. While I'm fascinated by the power of the storm, I've also walked down the beach doing damage surveys afterwards. I've seen places where 100 of beach was washed away, houses had their foundations washed out, and septic tanks were sitting on the sand (they were underground before the storm). I've seen sand dunes that looked like a giant knife had cut it in half, and there were 50 foot vertical drops left. I have a lot of respect for the power of a Hurricane. And yes, I'd still love to be on the beach photographing them!

Guess we should start having Hurricane Photogatherings?! ;-)

There's a photo workshop called "The Storms of November" at the eastern end of Lake Superior. Winds aren't as bad, but 20' waves stack up on that end of the lake that time of the year. Hmm... surfing in the sea kayak or photographing? Choices, choices.

I don't think I did a great job capturing this guy. I'll try again next time...

Well, the first one here is not exactly one of my favorite trees, but one of my favorite tree pics. It was taken in Garden of the Gods Park, late summer last year.
The second is one of my favorite trees. It's a Bristlecone Pine, over 1,200 years old, taken in the Mt Evans Wilderness Area. Taken in August 2002.

Here are a couple more. The one is a tree in a construction zone that was carefully worked around and has survived quite well.

Nothing beats a Sierra Nevada Pine forest. This was shot at Yosemite National Park last July. Sorry, I forgot the name of the marsh, but I do remember reading the sign stating that one day this marsh will eventually turn into a meadow, which will in turn become part of the forest you see behind it.
