Tinkering Around - Part II (no camera required)

My daughter was helping me scan a bunch of photos this weekend. After a while, she got the bright idea to stick her face in it. After a few a tries, we got the following. I imagine one could accomplish some creative stuff this way (athough a bit cumbersome, I agree). Can't imagine chasing some butterflies in the field with a scanner tethered to my laptop:D

Sorry if this is a tried and tired old topic. I thought it might provoke some discussions and examples.

What kind of scanner did you use for that? I've got a flatbed scanner that I might have to try somethin that like with :)

I was reading something once about a guy who uses a scanner to make fine art prints. I think that's what it was anyway, it's been a while since I read it. He would place sea shells on the scanner and get great details out of them. It was pretty interesting.

Jorgemonkey - mine is just a simple Epson 1200U flatbed. My son tried it but his lack of hair didn't reflect enough light to the side of his face. It made his face look spooky thin. I would imagine that some kind of home-made tent reflector around any 3-D object might help (handkerchief?).

Kind of a modern day version of the old office copier joke. I wanted to try it with their eyes open; but was over-ruled by the wife :p

There was a thread posted up here about a photographer that duct taped a scanner to the back of large format camera and began taking pictures. The results were very interesting. Here's the ink:

One if my friends had the cover off of his flat bed scanner and scaned the holes in the cieling tiles. But that was when 300DPI was the max resulotion you coud get.

I saw a webpage were a guy used a scanner as a back on a view camera. Can't remember where I saw it, probably on this site. It made for some really unique photos.
