We had one which held her breath until she passed out. Grandmother fixed her up all but good. She didn't get her way and held her breath but she was revived with ICE water. After that she stopped holding her breath. :)

Did you asked if it was alright to take a picture of there grand kid? When I was at the aquarium last week there was this kid that got his face painted to look like a tiger and I wanted to take a picture of him and was told I shouldn't by my son and daughter. I did not think anything of it until they said something. I didn't think anything was wrong with it. If you ask you miss the natural shot. I would feel funny asking after I took the picture also. What is your outlook on it? I think it goes for adults also. I wanted to take a few more pictures of the man on the bike (see my post only in NY) and my son told me to stop after I took a few pictures.

On this shot, it happened too fast to ask for permission first. And because this isn't the most flattering image for the people shown, you will notice that no one individual (especially the child) is recognizable. That was by design. In normal cases, I'm not too shy about getting close and showing the faces.

My "problem" is usually the opposite - once people notice me taking pictures, they usually "pose" which never looks natural. Perhaps it's the region of the country. People tend not to think "why" so much.

Could it be that your son stopped you from taking pictures because of the risk of confrontation and not because you "can't". Depending on the situation and location, that may be wise advice.

...Yep, this is the case with me...I am also not shy about asking people if I can shoot them, but it is rare for me at least that someone would get upset. Most people are hams...Simply look at the ''Capture a stranger'' thread...It is all done in taste as far as I can tell....Anyway, sorry for hijacking, but his comment bugged me...

Oh my goodness! Now I don't feel so alone.
My oldest used to push out a cry so far, she passed out. It was scarey at the time, because being my first, didn't realise what was going on.

My 2nd used to scream for almost an hour. My doctor told me to ignore her and that she was just trying to get my attention. Even if I smacked her she would be getting my attention.
I started ignoring her and her tantrums soon stopped.

Why did my comment bug you? I don't think it is wrong to take pictures of peoiple. I was not criticising him taking the picture I just wanted to know weather or not you should ask if you are taking pictures of kids. The only reason I was asking is because I asked is because y son thought it wasn't right to do.
