Thoughts on Canon Lens, EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6

Anyone have experience or thoughts on "Canon Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Image Stabilizer USM Autofocus Lens"

I am thinking of getting this, but not sure. If anyone has used one or has some advice, that would be great. Mainly I want a fast, mid range zoom lense that is high quality, but I can't really fend more than 1000 bucks at a time.

Or, if anyone has anything in the focal range of around a 28-135 that is fast and nice, I'd love to see those also.

That is the lens I keep on my camera most of the time. I use it for almost everything that does'nt require telephoto or macro.

I use Canon's 28-135 IS a lot. In fact, it used to be my primary lens until just recently. I just bought Canons 17-40 L and now it is competing as my primary lens.

Both are very nice lenses.

For weddings, the quiet USM motor is wonderful. The IS has saved several images for me, in fact, it has almost 'spoiled' me. I really like the IS. The length is a good length, esp. with film bodies. Focusing is very good. In very dim areas it will hunt, as most lenses, but it has to be fairly dark. When used with my EOS3 and 10D cameras, this lens focuses fairly quickly. I have shot several weddings and receptions with this lens and have been pretty darn happy with it.

It is a zoom, and can suck in dust. So I do recommend a UV filter. Filter size is 72mm, so the filters are a little more expensive. I must say though, that I usually do not use a filter at weddings, just a hood.

Its a very good lens for the $$.

I've had this lens for over 4 years and I use it a lot. It's probably been on my camera(s) (Rebel 300D and before that Elan7e) more than any other of my lenses. Good optics, great in low light without a tripod. I've never been disappointed with the results from this lens.

I had this lens for a short time as I needed an inexpensive (relatively) replacement zoom for my 28-70 and 70-200 f2.8L lenses (which got stolen :mad: ). It is quite sharp for a consumer lens (prosumer?), and is a fast focusing and quiet USM lens. The color rendition is a little cool compared to the L lenses, but not any more so than any other consumer/prosumer Canon lenses. I was relatively happy with the lens, but after I got my replacement L lenses, I gave the lens to a close friend who was struggling with the poor quality of a quantaray zoom that they purchased with their Rebel 2000. I think this lens will work very nicely for you, even with the slower f-stops since the noise levels are so insignificant on the Canon DSLR's at the higher ISO settings. Plus, IS really does work.
Here's one shot with D60, 1/6 second, at f/32 with this lens and IS on. Hand held, no tripod, braced myself against a tree.

This is a lens ametures should buy first for their Canon Cameras as it is a really great lens for the price. Although over priced here in Australia it is one I will keep until I can afford to buy a couple of L lenses but will still keep it in my bag as I think it is a great lens. Although I have other lenses I still use this one most of the time.
