    Fun with Fungus

I see these fungi growing on trees all around where I live. Anybody know if these are edible?

Good colors and detail on the top! If I recall from mushroom school you don't eat fungus growing from wood! (Yes, there's a botanist from Illinois State University/Normal who actually runs a Mushroom School). There's an exception if its a southern pine or some coniferous tree, but I'm not sure I remember that exact conditions. I like my portabellas with with a bit of bleu cheese crumbled over the top.

Mushroom school?!? Who woulda thunk it!? Great shot though Lionheart, and I think i'd rather eat the bark than the fungi

I like my portabellas stuffed with goat cheese and herbs, baked and served with ripe sliced tomatoes.:-) I'm getting hungry-think I'll go home and make myself a caprice salad.

I'm not sure I'd eat one on someone's say so over the internet. See if there is a mycological society in your neck of the woods.
