Suggestions to shoot wide angle ?

so I'm the proud owner - or not so proud at the moment - of a wide angle zoom

    11-16 mm

I understand that to get better images of a wide angle the common suggestions are:
    1. get close to the subject
    2. shoot low or high, avoid eye level
    3. hyper focus
    4. compose compose compose

and I guess change from your usual subjects to something different ...

... and .... practice practice practice...

Here are some examples of what I have done so far ...

Manual focus f22... I do like the lines of brick mortar, could have stepped back a bit to catch the whole circle

This one I let the camera auto focus on anything it would like to, end of a long day,
not really aiming to get the guy's behind as the subject

kind of like this one, I would have liked to have an even more different perspective of the jeep , perhaps getting closer and even lower, to much harsh vegetation to really lay on the ground in front of an imminent moving vehicle

A very colorful sunset, but not really different to anything that can be done with other lenses, except perhaps the more intense light flare on this particular lens

tried a few photos of a carrousel, and did not check them immediately, only to find out all were blurry on the edges, where the speed of a moving object will be higher with this lens, I had 1/60 of a sec, which I tought would be more than enough for a carrousel, but did not considered the deformation of the image

any suggestions that I may not be considering?

    Thanks in advance !

Wides and ultra wides can be a lot of fun to play with and can add another dimension to your photography. One reason that the full frame D700 is so enjoyable for me is that my wide angle photos look like wide angles again. A disadvantage is that the only DX lens I own is 12-24mm now it doesn't work with the D700.

I really like your #3 shot of the jeep going over the rock. Great use of the wide angle.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

I like both of the last two shots. They don't show so much deformity.
I love my 12-24 and wish I had your 11-16/

Is your camera usually on iso 1000?
I think that even if you can go to 11mm wide, if you want less distortion, you will get less if you go up to 12, 13 , 14 or so. Don't know what he best point is for the 11-16.

Re: Suggestions to shoot wide angle ?

OldTimer and Frog, thanks for the comments.

I would think 11mm is the point of more distortion, and it does not seem to be too bad

I do not usually shoot ISO 1000 but since I was using F22, F16, I used it to obtain a shooting speed higher than 1/60, since I was getting some camera shake
