    Belly Dancer

I managed to get some shots of my beautiful daughter, Gina, in her Belly Dancing costume this weekend.
I think they are a little better than the shots I got last time.

Your thoughts (good or bad) are always welcomed.

All are great but I really like the wasy you took advantage of that strong back light in 2 and 3. Those backgrounds with harsh over exposure can really play havoc on an otherwise beautiful image. Nice job and beautiful subject.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

i'm drawn to number 3, i think its because of the expression on her face, its kind of alluring and mischievious, and yes she is beautiful. however i also think that the back lighting is great but i would try to reframe (at least the 3rd one) so that the shadow/intense sun on the grass was not in the picture. its doesn;t really distract me in this picture but i think it would be stronger if it were all green grass.

Yeah I know what you mean Dylan. I cropped number 1 yesterday and it looks lovely but I wanted to show a full length of Gina.
And the reason why her feet aren't showing is because she was too stubborn to take off her trainers lol.

Ah, I knew it was going to be Gina.
The first and second I think even out of focus the tree is distracting.
For me #3 is the best, I far prefer the gauzy billowing background...
Though the transition from blown out green to the shadow would be nicer is it wasn't there.

Thank you so much to everyone who has commented today.

Shadows etc are all things I shall look out for in future. Save me some ps work.

Actually I think it does. All the shots are nice, and of course using backlight shows style, but you usually want to avoid having some of the bg bright and some dark, the way the light and shadow areas of the bg are in your shots.

Now if there is a nice mix of maybe filtered light creating out-of-focus light and dark patterns in the bg, that's one thing, but a clear line of brightness "demarcation" cutting through the frame is definitely distracting and appears to be a mistake.

Sometimes you have to crop so you don't see that shadow area that your subject is standing on...

    There you go...

Yeah, that dark green grass is so easy to edit out, I really should have mentioned that as a solution...

    Re: Belly Dancer

i think i was refering to if it was all light colored, i didn't say that very well.

i think it would look best with all dark green grass in the background, all light colored wouldn't bother me though. and the line with both isn't to good.

or at least thats how i feel after seeing all bright grass

    Re: Belly Dancer

I'm brand new here, but hope it's OK to post in your thread. As I stated in my intro, I'm an amateur. However, I'd like to say that, yes, your daughter is a very beautiful young lady. The other point I'd like to make is that I can't believe how much I just learned in reading the replies to this thread. This is only the first thread I've gone through, and you have all just improved my own picture-taking tremendously. Thanks for posting all your thoughts. I'll be reading more and, I suspect, learning more.

    Best to all.....

    Thanks mystified.
Of course it's ok for you to post in my thread.
And it's nice to know you have learned something from reading it.

Alot of people call me a master but I am far from it. I am still learning too.
But I have come a long way being here. They're a great bunch of helpful people on here.
