Soupy - My Best Friend
My best friend left today. He had a good life, I think. I loved him and he loved me. We had 14 great years together. He will never be replaced.

I'm so sorry. It's so hard when they go. It's always too soon.

Re: Soupy - My Best Friend
Sorry to hear that John. I lost a dog last year, and had a close call with another a few weeks ago so I know what you're going through. R.I.P. Soupy.

Ah, I'm sorry to hear that John.
Even when it's expected, it's no easier to bear.

Apart from more time together, you can't wish for much more than that.

Re: Soupy - My Best Friend
Beautiful Kitty. I'm sure he knew how much you loved him and how lucky you both were to have each other for 14 years. Life seems so unfair when it comes to the short life spans of our best friends. Truly sorry for your loss

Your thread was the first thing I saw this evening - and my heart sank......your meaningful and heartfelt words brought tears to my eyes. I'm so sorry, John. I know how much my Molly and Jeremy mean to me and I don't know what I'd do if I lost one of them.
You're right, nothing can take the place Soupy has in your heart, but I hope you will get another little friend.....it won't fill Soupy's place in your heart, but will find another spot. When you're ready.
That photo is awesome.......
I will pray for you.

Ah, it's only fitting that a cool cat was the companion for another cool cat. I'm sure he will be missed...

I'm sure he had a wonderful life.
Deepest condolences, long term friends like this are the hardest to say goodbye to.

Re: Soupy - My Best Friend
My thoughts are with you, John.
I lost my 19-yr-old cat last August and I still find myself thinking he's going to walk into the room, meowing for attention or food or whatever...
We can never truly replace friends like these, who offer us unconditional love, but someday another special cat will find you.

Re: Soupy - My Best Friend
There are a few of us men who develop a love for a cat. I've had a few and can empathize with your loss.
My condolences.

Re: Soupy - My Best Friend
That is so sad, Photo-John. Fortunately you have some wonderful photos of Soupy to keep the memories strong.
-
Thank you
Thanks guys for looking and being nice. It was a tough week and Friday was a very sad day for me. I've now had two days without Soupy to feed, not cat under my feet while I'm cooking, and no sick kitty to worry about. It's a very different world.
Here's a link to a photo my friend Jenni took yesterday. It's my last Soupy scratch. Funny how these things become so important. This photo may be the best tribute I have to my best friend.

Yeah, it is funny. Brings back memories for me. I still have a handful of scars on my fingers from deep scratches from my "best friend".
They were all from wounds suffered while we were playing, and he took it a little too serious... :)

Sorry to hear about Soupy John!
Soupy was a fine kitty, I had a few opportunities to meet him over the past few years.
Thanks for sharing this with us John, I hope you are doing well.

Oh John I'm so sorry :( The unconditional we get (through the scratches sometimes lol) and give to and from them is something that cant be explained. You gave Soupy a great life and he returned it in kind :)

Re: Soupy - My Best Friend
John,
How did he get the name "Soupy?" It sounds like he must have "earned" it. :)

Soupy was a stray who showed up at a house where I lived in San Jose, an about 1994, I guess. I heard some meowing outside and found him hiding in a utility cubbyhole on the side of the house. He was probably about 5 or 6 months old - still a kitten, but not tiny. He had a flea collar on so we figured he was lost. My roommate promptly opene a can of tuna, insuring that he'd never want to leave. Then he said we'd better keep him in the house or he'd end up "White Cat Soup" - a politically incorrect reference to the cultural diversity in our neighborhood (did I word that part well? :) ). White Cat Soup was shortened to Soup and eventually morphed into Soupy. He's also been called Fatass because at one point he weighed close to 20 pounds.
Thanks for asking about his name. The best names just come naturally. Soupy has a great friend and he had a great name.

John,
That's a great story - thanks for sharing it. It's funny how cats get attached to one person. Did you ever have another cat?

Jeremy weighs about 17 lbs. and the vet said he has to lose weight. It's hard to keep him on a diet as he will eat anything that doesn't eat him first.

Re: Soupy - My Best Friend
Soupy was my first and main kitty. My ex-girlfriend in CA and I lived together for about ten years with three cats, one of which was Soupy. There were usually a couple of project cats living in the basement, on the porch, or in an old parakeet cage in the backyard, too. Parker was one of the three indoor cats and he's still with me. Some of you may remember that he had a bad infection a couple of years ago and almost died. He's fat and healthier than ever now. I'm a little worried about how he'll react to Soupy being gone. But so far it doesn't seem to have affected him. I'm sure it does, though. They were together for a long, long time.

Now I remember Parke! I was thinking about the time your cat had the infection, but couldn't remember his name, so I assumed it had to be Soupy that had the infection. I'm glad Parke is healthy. And I'm glad he's still around.

Tess brought in her first mouse yesterday.
Didn't eat it, oh no.
Not a diet supplement, but a TOY.
Thanks, puss.
We really wanted that in the bedroom.
She was encouraged to take it outside to eat !
This morning she had a hacking upchuck of cat-food and diarrhoea, so maybe she finally ate something that disagreed with her.

Re: Soupy - My Best Friend
I'm so sorry to hear about that. It has to be one of the hardest things to deal with under any circumstance. They are much more than a pet, they are companions. I lost mine about 5 yrs ago and still can't talk about it and the one that he replaced was 19yrs. Its hard to think about, but give it time and somewhere someday there will be another one.
Take care
