So many dummies on ebay! lol

I have been keeping an eye on ebay the 580EX flashes but people are idiots!
Here it is, brand new at BH Photo for $359

    http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...=348457&is=USA

On freaking ebay these morons who don't do their research are bidding them up to $409! lol
    http://photography.search.ebay.com/5...7931QQsbrsrtZd

So learn from their mistakes - always research pricing before you bid on items, or you're make someone's day and overpay by quite a big AND get ripped off on shipping!

Incidently, I won a Sunpak 380 for $50 - not bad, and I figure it's a good temporary flash until I can get up money for the 580 EX! ;)

I just bought a tripod for $2.99 on ebay. :-)

    This one. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...ughType=search

I used it in school, thats why I was after this particular model. The only thing is, it doesnt come with a quick remove mount piece, so I bought one on B&H for $5. So the tripod cost me $8+5ish for shipping(Free shipping on tripod, 5 for mount) $13. Normal Retail: $39

Final Verdict: People on ebay are stupid. I'm a wise buyer and seller. I check prices before bid. I set my starting price higher than $3, and I usually use the Reserve price.

The human is funny creature. Were were talking about this ebay thin in another thread last week. Lots of stories both for good deals and of how much some idiots will pay just to win a bid. Friend of mine has a hardware store, he ordered more riding mowers than he could sell this spring. He told his 18 year old daughter that if she could sell them on ebay he'd split the profits. Had one guy that was 300 miles away win a bid several dollars over retail and a lot more than he would have paid if he bought off the floor of my friends store. To beat it all he rented a trailer and drove 300 miles to pick it up. Needless to say friend and daughter were happy. Just got to wonder about some people though.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

If you put some thought into your Ebay auctions you can usually end up making a little bit more money. For the most part I like to have my auctions end on Sunday nights. Most people are at home on Sunday evening so there are more people viewing auctions or have already seen your auction and log on to try get in on some bidding right at the end.

Then again some items like golf clubs do best on Monday because many golfers go out and have a bad round over the weekend, blame their clubs, and then log onto Ebay from work to buy a new piece of equipment to hopefully solve their problems.

I've had great luck finding camera gear at estate sales and then reselling it on Ebay. Ahh Ebay such a useful tool to fund all my projects around my house ;o)

Well, that's exactly it. Many folks know what they want and know what they're willing to pay to get it, and that's it. A lot of people don't want to go to the trouble to find out what an item costs everywhere else or how to get the best bargain. They simply don't care...

I looove ebay, but its a matter of being patient and doing your research. I just picked up a pair of 300w studio strobes for about $360 total. Its nice now being able to at F16-F22 while shooting products at work.

So far I've been lucky as a buyer/seller with everything going smoothly. When buying anything over $100, I usually deal with a company since getting refunds/warranty stuff is nice (Amvona is awsome on warranties!!).

From what I hear, people just get so excited about bidding, that they don't pay attention to how much they are paying.

Me, I like my things to come in shiney boxes with the wrapping still on them

That's exactly what my wife to be says. She never waits to the end to bid because she gets too excited and ends up overpaying for things.

    On the good side:

I just effectively saved $21.37 on a SanDisk Ultra II 1GB CF card compared to if I bought it from my local COSTCO.

    On the dummy side:

I just posted a couple auctions at 4AM PST. Nobody is going to fight over it now since they'll probably be asleep. :mad2:

I just bought a waist level finder for my RZ67 for $0.99. It's too bad the shipping is $8.00. So I guess for $8.99 I bought a brand new waist level finder. Not too bad if I do say so myself.

Although I am up at 4AM for idiotic reasons, the 4AM EBAY post occurred as a scheduled listing. I use the drop down and set it tp 4AM instead of 4PM for two of my auctions. The next morning I noticed two of my auctions were activated :mad2:

When you get it make sure you got a genuine card. There are some going around on ebay that are actually fakes.

I picked up a Canon EOS Elan 7N on ebay with a 28-105mm lens (I think that's the lens) in MINT condition for $200. I would have been happy to pay that much for the body it's self, the kit lens was just a bonus. About half the cost of a new one. I was pretty happy with that purchase.

Oh that sucks. Not like there is a lot of used Gary Fong stuff on Ebay to begin with. You'll get it next time.

Speaking of "dummies on ebay," I clearly state I only take U.S. buyers in the 48 contiguous states. In 24 hours I get an email asking how much to ship to Canada.

I'm no expert but if this card is a fake they are damn good at it. Everything about it looks real...I think we are good.

In case anyone wants a deal like mine look for ebay user: eluxshoppe

    She shipped really fast.

So my wife wins an auction for 16 rubber stamps but the seller sends 6. We ask her for the other 10. She says it was a typo. You have a freaking listing up for 7 days and don't catch that! PROFF READ!

I don't think it matters if it is a typo. You are bidding for what is stated on the auction. If it says 16, they owe you 16. File a complaint with Ebay and put a negative feedback on that person!

I once had a person bid on an item that I was selling, and after he won the auction he claimed he bid on it by mistake (how does one do that!?!) and didn't want to pay. You can bet he got a negative feedback from me!

I know this feeling... OTH, I recently put a lens I bought used from BH back in '99 (remember those film days?). I looked at the price with about 1hr left and I thought it was reasonable. It was about what I paid for it and about what the gold star dealers would sell it for now. Then I went to take a shower, logged back on to see what it has sold for, and it sold for ridiculously close to what a new one costs.

Quite frankly, I was worried about shipping it even though I was 100% honest about the condition....

    Now I'm the dummy...

I was looking for pro Sony HD miniDV tapes. They were sold out at B&H and I read someone get a good deal by buying bulk on Ebay. Due to confusion and being uncareful, I just committed to buying a 10 pack of of these tapes spending over $15 more than I would've if I bought it from B&H.

I just checked and B&H now has them in stock.....a little too late for me....

Oh well, it doesn't hurt to support the little guy sometimes....
