Self Portraits 2009
As the weather grows nastier and we spend more time indoors a favorite activity of photographers during this time of pure boredom is to turn the camera on themselves. This occurs because our family and friends have gotten so tried of us sticking a lens in their face that all we receive is a scowl or a sneer. So when Joy gave me a late Christmas present due to a size exchange I immediately headed for a mirror to check it out. And as long as I was at a mirror anyway why not a self portrait in my new hat. OK now that I have kicked it off lets have your latest self portraits. Weather they came from pure boredom or an unceasing desire for creativity let's see them.

PS: This one could have gone to the 50mm thread or the window light thread. Yours need not be either just so you are the subject of the image.

    WooHoo OT!

    Very GQ.

Dh has that same facial hair thing going. Along with everyone on his team at work. They call it a soul patch, which I find hilariously funny.

A soul patch is just a patch of hair under the lower lip, like him. I would call OT's beard more of a goatee. He does look very dapper though!

Come on Adina I'll challenge you to a self portrait contest.

Thanks Ron. I was going for two different things with the shoots. Really just wanted to show off the D700 in that one. Wish I'd gone for a bit more DOF on it.

All right!! I feel a real self portrait war coming on. Yeah they need to be new ones. Now somebody rattle Speed's cage and get him involved. I can't wait. Wish Nat would play with us again. I hope a bunch a people will jump in and go for the golden ring on this one. You need to be challenged Adina.

Thanks Ali. what can I say a cheap 50mm f1.8 and an open door to my right, Thats all you need. People try to make photography to complicated. We just need to have fun with it.

There is a story behind this one. We had company over after Christmas. One of my friends left his camera at my house, so being myself, I picked it up and took this photo. I knew he'd want a picture of his buddies!

Adina, I think we need to see a self portrait of you smiling. You look so somber in those photos. Not that this is a bad thing, just once in a while show us your brighter side. :) (says the guy who never posts any self-portraits)

Well, I guess I'll throw an attempt out to the wolves. I had to spend the afternoon cutting, hauling and stacking branches (debris from our ice storm) out by the road. Here's a shot taken with my cell phone after a couple hours of work in the cool, brisk wind!

I suck at smiley self portraits. However, I will be hooking up with some photog friends next weekend and will try and get some smiley ones.

I didn't get as close as I want, but this is from my 2nd week doing a 52 week project. I'll post the photo I took for the 1st week, which was inspired by the Window Light thread tomorrow. I'll also try and get a closer self portrait!:) I've been posting them to my Flickr page. Check it out if you have time!
