We don't have those in the northwest so I'm sorry they are annoying you but good photos of them.

You just have to weather the storm with these guys. Not much you can do about them but keep a stiff upper lip.

These are nasty creatures. I remember when we lived out in the country surrounded by beautiful big trees. When these bugs came one year, they would keep me awake at night just listening to them eating the leaves on those beautiful trees. Just hearing that awful noise and knowing what they were doing was disturbing. They are quite big, ugly and sometimes they would fly right into your face if you were in the wrong place at the wrong time, although I guess they were harmless to a human. I haven't seen them around in years. Guess they're still doing their thing - just moved on to more lucious territory.

It's funny, I live in the U.K. and two weeks ago there was a documentary on the T.V. about the cicadas.

They are food in quite a few places in the world namely China, Malaysia, Burma, and Latin America.

One bit that I found fascinating is it's 17 year life cycle and theres other species spread all over the world.

Here's a good place to find out more:

Thanks for these pictures, hope your managing to sleep ok at night
