God bless all the Veterans - all those men and women who have served our Country - and those who are presently serving our country. I especially want to honor all of you in our PR community who are Veterans.

Thanks for starting this thread, Liz. I wish I had something to add to it. I remember your photo from last year, Liz. I wonder if that group are all still with us. And MB1, your Tomb Of The Unknown Soldier is powerful.

I met this gentleman at the WW2 memorial this last summer. He needed a walker to get around and had his daughter with him to help. When I asked to take his photo, he agreed his daughter stood back a little to get out of the photo, and he did indeed stand a little taller. We will never be able to repay the dept to these guys, /freedom is indeed not free!

I often look at this photo and wonder about these sailors and wish I could see them again. I just love their positions and the expressions on their faces, especially that beautiful smile. The image is a bit soft because they were walking fast and I was trying to keep up with them - walking or half running backwards and trying to keep the camera steady and focused.

MBI - that's a wonderful shot of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier - thanks for posting it.

Bryan - thanks for sharing the photo of the veteran - it's a wonderful way to honor these men and women who have served our country, and many times they are forgotten. Thankfully in the past few years they have gotten more attention and expressions of gratitude.

Gary - thanks for the comments. Veteran's Day is very special to me - I'm so glad we have this opportunity to give a little to those who have given so much for us - and those who are still serving our country.

Next Veterans Day, I'll do a self portrait, or PJ can make a portrait of me, because I will officially be a vet...
Don't forget those vets to be, especially the ones in Iraq and Afghanistan, or those that are sitting in a military hospital somewhere, as well as the ones that gave their all, and their families

I was going to post this link earlier, but I forgot. David DeJonge, a photographer from Michigan, is trying to photograph the last few living WWI veterans before they die. What a great photo project.

Thanks for posting that link. I really enjoyed reading the article. David DeJonge is an incredible person for all he is doing for these WWI veterans.

I hope you don't mind - but I'm adding the video that includes the 2 oldest men (107 & 108 I believe) along with others. It's very brief but powerful.

Thanks for sharing sharing your photo here. I really enjoy seeing photographs of the vets. This is an especially nice one - love the b&w. Ilford Delta used to be my favorite.

A few shots from today - honoring the Veterans and those serving our Country today. They're not the best compositionally - most of the time I was blocked by the police line in front of me. BTW the dog in the 2nd pic is a military service dog.

I SALUTE YOU ...
AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE

Two images I took two years ago - but some newer forum members might not have seen them. They were taken at the "Field of Remembrance" at Westminster Abbey, an annual event at which a poppy is planted for each British serviceman or woman who fell in the service of their country. And there are so, so many of them. It is a sobering, yet hopeful place.

First: a quiet prayer
Second: an old soldier searches for the names of his fallen comrades.

It was a cold and dreary day here in the capital, as I watched the 90th Remembrance Day ceremonies from the comfort of my warm living room, I was quite moved by the many faces of all the veterans who gathered on this cold dreary day to remember their youth and events from the past.
. . . we are most thankful, and will remember them forever !
