Remember, Deborah?
Who remembers our good friend, Deborah? She organized the first PhotographyREVIEW.com Gathering. That was in Colorado during the fall of 2000, if I remember correctly.
I had dinner with Deborah, in Denver, on Saturday. She's been very busy with her Web site, Treats For Troops. That's why she hasn't been giving us much attention. But we should all remember that she's one of the main reasons that these forums are so good. She was also the first person to point out that we needed a stronger female presence. And look at all the great women photographers we have on the site now!
And for those of you who remember, didn't I do a better job on this photo of Deborah than last time? :D

Why I Was in Colorado
My personal photographer - the lovely, Paige. She's the best :)
This photo was taken in downtown Denver, near the big REI and Confluence Park.

Sugar
Well, it looks like sugar.
This is a panoramic made from two Canon EOS 10D images I took in Winter Park. You can see a much larger version here >>

Yes, of course!
I remember her well. I also recall her posting all about the work she is doing for the troops. She has such a good heart - and is a good worker.
Thanks for the update. Great picture btw.

Liz, you are one of people I asked about Sat night. I am glad to see you are still around. I hope your holidays are good!

Excellent!
Glad you found this. Sending you a link to this post was on my list. But now I don't have to do it. And it was great seeing you, too. I wish you were on the site more. But I understand. And it's great to be able to visit.
But how about that photo? Is that ok? After the last time, I got a bit sensitive. I've changed my priorities a little when I'm taking pictures of people to post on the site. I hope I did ok :)
I'm looking forward to your e-mail.

Re: Sugar

Deborah, I hardly recogized you without that Leopard-print thingey! :)
John, I think your photo is fine. I understand your style of taking pictures of people in dark places :D I don't remember your last one, but this one remains true to your stlye while still delivering a reasonably pleasant facsimile of her likeness.
And your girlfriend is cute. Where you been hiding her?

I love this picture. I can feel the cold wind blowing off those peaks. I can see the cornices forming. I can remember being there, or places just like it. But I don't understand how you were able to fuse those two images so seamlessly.

PJ, you did much better this time. :) One would think that I was at a party! Hey wait a minute, I think it was a party, just a small one.
All of the people who thought they were going to do something else, but decided it was too late are shopping TFT this week. The holidays are not over yet.

Re: Sugar
John,
That photo of Paige is great! And the Panorama is fantastic! did you use the Canon software to fuse them together or did you just do it yerself?
-
Photoshop
Thanks, Alan. I'm really happy with that photo of Paige. When I saw that background I was psyched. I knew it would make a good photo.
The panorama was done in Photoshop. I've never tried any actual panorama software. I guess I should give it a shot, since I have it.

Happy Holidays!!

John! Thanks for posting this!
My office was going to collect stuff to send over but this makes a lot more sense as far as I can see! Deborah, you are an angel for starting this site! My friend's little brother is in the special ops over there right now in the middle of the fighting - but he was excited to get the chance to over and is very proud to be there. I told my friend to go to you site to register his brother - i'm sure he'd enjoy getting stuff from people!

No Problem
I love what Deborah is doing. Regardless of your politics, those kids need some love, support, and recognition. I also think the social and political ramifications of her business are very interesting. And she's a great person and one of this site's original and most committed supporters. it's nice to see her having such success. Especially when she can do it while helping other people.

Had to post this - I sent the URL to a friend of mine and she replied back to me with this:
Quote:
My soldier son has returned safely home from Afghanistan and is now reunited with his four year old daughter we were raising. Both are doing great and my son is really looking forward to Christmas this year. He says anyone who doesn’t appreciate what it is to be in America ought to go spend Christmas in Afghanistan…that’s where he was last year in a mud hut out in the middle of nowhere for 45 days. They put some branches on a flashlight and that was their Christmas tree.
I say a prayer daily for all those overseas and for our country’s leaders.

Re: No Problem
Janie,
I hear stories like that every week. Many people send me updates from their soliders. I remember a photo of a soldier tending the 1' X 3' plot of grass he had planted in front of his tent. He had his wife send dirt and grass seed to him because he missed green grass so much. The note with the photo said that he takes off his boots and socks and stands on his grass almost daily. He "mows" his grass with scissors.
Happy Holidays!

I think....
I think I remember you Deb.
I remember mostly when your site came out, you announced it here, if I recall.
I remember it, because I am one of those that you could be, but haven't thankfully, gathering treats for.
It's a good thing you have going! Keep it up!
Thanks!

LONG Time!!!
Hello Deborah,
It's been so long since we met, and since you posted. I hope life is treating you well.
I think you guys had some sort of fun raiser her in ABQ a while back. I had to go to SJ during it for the day job.
I haven't backpacked in some time. On a thursday two labor days ago some guy ran a light and hit me on my bike. My back has been tweeked ever since. It keeps slowly getting better. Hopefully, be next summer.... I think my dog is mad at me for not bringing her
Anyway, I'm on my poor connection at home so I better go before I lose it.
I think I still have your email. Remember, if you're down this way give me a ring. Yep, I still have April.

Mike, sorry to hear about your misfortune. I hope you can get into the backcountry again by the summer. I have not been able to get out as much as I like, but do sneak in a day hike or quick overnighter now and then.
Merry Christmas!
