Quick Poll - What Camera Is Next For You?
I posted a new quick poll to find out what kind of cameras people are planning to buy in the near future. Please vote and let me know if I made any major omissions in the options. I didn't want the choices to get too granular so choose the best fit. But please let me know if you think I've really forgotten something.
The next camera I plan to buy is >>
And a corollary question: does anyone think their current camera will be their last? That's mostly a question for the digital camera owners. I'm thinking that digital camera performance and image quality has reached the point where people might start sidestepping the pressure to keep upgrading.

Try it again. I tested it right after I posted it and then again just now. You probably just hit a little server bump. If it still doesn't work, please let me know if you get an error.

Re: Quick Poll - What Camera Is Next For You?
The link isn't working for me either. But to answer the question. Probably one more upgrade for me. The E5 is a steller camera and I have made some huge prints and the IQ is enough for me. But one more DSLR, the E7, I hope and I may be done for awhile.
As far as mirror less. I have tried three, EP-1, EPL-1 and now Sony Nex3. When I get out shooting them I always seem to be trying to get the camera to set and miss the shot. Trying to look at the small fonts on the LCD and chimping. The AF of all three have missed at times. The IQ of all three was more than enough but I always fall back on the simplicity of my Leica.
Sony fixed a few issues with their firmware upgrades but I honestly think all are going overboard with complicated features and not enough room for enough buttons. Plus a view finder would help. I wish they made a X100 with changeable lenses. Someone is going to hit a home run soon, I hope it's Olympus.

Link not working for me either.
No, my current camera(s) is/are not my last camera(s). :)
Camera can still be improved: better high ISO performance (not just for D3s and the like say what about a D400 with D3s high ISO performance or better), better AF, better color-balance, and better dynamic range for examples. Some would want to have at least 24 megapixels, too, (room for cropping for action/wildlife photogs).

Re: Quick Poll - What Camera Is Next For You?
Link didn't work for me so I just went to the home page and voted for DSLR.
For the most part, I'm really happy with my 40D but I still feel it is lacking in the high ISO performance for my personal tastes. I have had it since February of 2008 and it still performs just as good as it did the day I got it but I would be interested to see what come out to replace the 7D. If I could get images clean enough to use at ISO 1600 I think I would have answered the poll differently.

Re: Quick Poll - What Camera Is Next For You?
Funny, it works fine for me.
Just kidding, links broken for me too...
Tentatively, my upgrade will be the SLT-A77. I had originally wanted an upgrade to an A900(or A850, since they are both almost identical), but the features, spec, and usability of the A77 are quite tempting (not even an official release yet). I'm also looking forward to being able to do good video. I wont be abandoning my current A700, but using it when I feel like using an optical viewfinder, and keeping it as backup, may be more like a daily driver. Don't know what I'd do with my KM5D at that point, maybe keep as a backup to the backup? lol.
Will it be my last? No. I'm sure there will be abilities in future cameras that I will want to utilize. AF performance may become practically instant. Maybe full frame comes to SLT. That said, I still love my A700 and it still is doing an excellent job for me. I am in no hurry, no rush to upgrade it. I'm more eager to get my next lens, which is looking to be the Minolta 200mm f/2.8 APO G HS, or a 300 f/4 G APO.

I'm currently shopping around for a p&s...probably going to grab a canon s95.

Re: Quick Poll - What Camera Is Next For You?
First, I certainly disagree with the idea that cameras have reached a point of maturity. Maybe if you insist that the SLR is the epitome of camera evolution, but I think the revolution to electronics (vs optics/mechanical) is just beginning.
That said, my next camera will probably be a DSLR (such as the Sony A580) since I am not an early adopter and will wait until the new technologies get the kinks worked out.
I'm also always looking for the 'does everything' camera that fits in my pocket. I'm afraid that what I want here is a decade or two away. :)

Re: Quick Poll - What Camera Is Next For You?
I heard this from a friend, but i think Nikon will make a D400 to upgrade on their current D300 (my camera). .. If it's true, I think I might get one of those. My D300 has almost 200k of photos taken. I'm worried that it might die on me while I'm abroad.
Let's go Nikon make an announcement!!

Re: Quick Poll - What Camera Is Next For You?
I'll keep my Canon 7d and Sony tx10 for quite a while. I had my rebel and Kodak 7630 for over 5 years. I'm an early adopting laggard.
What i need is a pro video camera. Like a sony ex3 or ex1. But that's another story.

That depends on what image quality you expect from it, and what "everything" is. Arguably, the Olympus XZ-1 and Canon S95 are pretty close to that definition now.

Re: Quick Poll - What Camera Is Next For You?
Hasselblad! 500 C/M or similar.
It was a D700, but my D300 still does exactly what I need it to do.

Re: Quick Poll - What Camera Is Next For You?
I won't be upgrading until very certain criteria are met. The E3 and the pro-series Zuiko lenses are enough camera for me; I have very little need for better high-ISO, more mp, IQ, speed or electronic gimicks like art filters. I DO have a very real need for something smaller that still fits the description of the E3's legendary build quality and weather sealing. It seems like all of the mirrorless systems are made for suzi homemaker and that the camera companies are not taking them seriously as a professional quality tool. So, until I see some weatherproof, fast and sharp EVIL macro lenses, long telephotos, serious wide-angles and bomb-proof bodies, I'll keep the E3.
Maybe my niche of nature photography makes my needs unique. I'm just sick of lugging 15# of camera gear in the field.

Re: Quick Poll - What Camera Is Next For You?
Thanks, Liz. I linked to "stage" our staging server. So I could see it but you guys couldn't. Sorry about that.
I'm so scattered today that when I replied to you edited your post instead. Sorry about that :(

Re: Quick Poll - What Camera Is Next For You?
ok , after seeing the options of the poll
voted DSLR ,
which one ? I'm not sure, wishing for a body like the D300, with ISO sensibility like D7000 or better, capable of in body IS , and lens IS user selected

Frankly, I think I'm there. I was (and still am) happy with the performance of my D200, and the only reason I bought a D300 (back in 2008) was for the enhanced low light capability. Since I shoot weddings and astrophotography, low light capability is important to me. But in the three years I've had the D300 I have not felt the need to "upgrade". As an aside here, I still use my D200 as my second body when shooting weddings. I don't intend to buy another digital camera until one of mine stops working.

Re: Quick Poll - What Camera Is Next For You?
Last camera?
When I retire I think !
I'm not looking to change systems but probably will change bodies.
Possibly the Canon 1DmkV (and full frame equivalent) if they add an articulated screen, it's a feature I've come to really like on the Panasonic GH-2.
Possibly the Olympus E-P4 if they add an articulated screen, though the E-PL3 comes close with its tilt screen.
Yes, I do really like articulated screens.
It's why I use the GH-2 almost all the time when out and about.
Particularly now I have the 100-300 zoom.
I regret buying the E-P1, simply because the E-P2 and VF-2 are so much better.
So I am holding off on the E-P3 also, in case my dream E-P4 comes true :)
