    Quick edit
I posted the source for this before, just got my PC to work long enough (grrrrrrrrrrr!) to do an edit to make one hyperfocussed composite.

Here's the two images - track and child.

The main one is only a rough edit, and doing it at full resolution instead of 800x600 will be much easier I think.
But I think it's worth the effort over either of these on their own.

The final works well. Did you use a tripod or was this handheld? I'm working on a monster sequence composite right now and it's taking forever to edit all the layer masks. It was shot handheld and has something like 15 layers, so registration of the layers is critical. Although it's not a panorama, I used the Photoshop CS4 Automate > Photomerge to justify all the layers, and it worked great.

    Both shots handheld.
I did the alignment by hand, I might try photomerge and see if it can do better then me.

    Photomerge
Photomerge is awesome. I love it. I used to do sequences completely by hand and it was a terrible pain in the butt. I am curious about how it would handle the out-of-focus areas in these images, though. I don't know if it's equipped for that. You should give it a shot and see what happens.
