    BTW .... Just a tip

I used to shoot my feeder with a 80-200F2.8 on a film body using a cable release through a window.

PLENTY of people get publishable images while reading the morning paper just how I discribed ;)

How are you liking that 50-500 BTW? I have seen plenty of them hanging on PRO GEAR(F5, 1V-HS, 1D, D1X....) at zoos especially. That lens is a great all around lens for such a day trip!!
I'll give the cable release a try. I think the remote works up to 20' away so I can give it a shot.
Love the 50-500. Great color, plenty sharp as far as I'm concerned. I've only had it a few weeks, but I got used to it pretty quick. It is heavy, but it is balanced well and not difficult, for me anyway, to carry around. I use it for pretty much everything outdoors.

    Gotta Love Birds!

These are the best of my many many many efforts to shoot birds over the years. Birds are one my favorite subjects to shoot. I equate it with a golf swing in that it can be a very humbling experience but when you do connect it is very satisfying! There is nothing new here from me. I've posted all these at one time or another. I need to get out more and stalk dem birds!

Heron - Loxahatchie wildlife refuge, Florida about a year and a half ago.
Sea Gull - Swamp land in Lyndhurst N.J. about 3 years ago.
Bird on cup - Barbados about 12 years ago.
Swan - Some park in N.J. about 5 years ago.

Anyway, I've enjoyed this post. keep em coming and thanks for looking.

    Hey there Joe!

    Hi Joe,

These are awesome bird photos. So sharp with excellent color. Good composition too. I love the one stealing the lemon out of (your) glass. Great catch. ;)

I hope all is well with you. All is good in Paterson.

But of course. But since it's on the bird feeder, it must be a bird.

Though I think the technical name for it is the "bushytail grayback".

It is a flightless bird, though it has amazing leaping abilities. ;-)

This is a yellow-billed magpie . I don't know where rocky mountain state park is, but they are found mostly on the california upper coast line. The black-billed magpies are found from alaska down through the mid western states

Sorry for the graininess...it was taken using a Kodak DX4330 P/S at 10x digital zoom...I caught this flock just south of Emporia, Kansas on the turnpike. Even with the graininess...the reflection is kind of neat...I have a couple I will post later of some I caught in flight.

For those familiar with NC, Nashville is near Rocky Mount and Wilson.

Wow, so many excellent bird photos have been posted. I really love the nest of eggs. This should probably be a greeting card.

Paulnj, thanks for the ID on the gull.

Speed, all but the birdie on the cup were shot with my EOS 1V and Sigma 300mm 2.8 EX APO HSM (gotta be the longest lens model # ever). The one on the cup was with my then brand new Nikon 6006 with 75-300 zoom. I was having breakfast at an adjacent table when this little guy swooped in before the waiters could clear the table from the previous diners. I grabbed exactly this one shot and really laughed when I got the pics back. Anyway, thanks again for looking and thanks for all the great posts.

    KKmike, thanks!

Liz, Thanks for your comments. We had a pretty good scare with Matthew over the last month or so. I'll probably pm you and give you the details. Nice to hear from you, take care.

Well the goose is a barheaded goose which is obviously an introducd(read pet) species. I do believe the wild population from which it originated is from INDIA ;)
