    playing dead like poss'm
or in this case, the possum is really dead. I don't make it a habit of shooting dead wildlife but this baby poss'm caught my attention. I don't know if he died from what he ate from the can or if someone just put the can next to the dead possum and thought this would make a funny picture. Either way, I thought it was worth catching.

The next picture I am hoping Paul can ID me. I shot it in Simi Valley near a creek. It was quite some distance from me so I pulled out the 70-300 mm and shot at its full length, which explains the lack of detail. The bird wouldn't let me get any closer than this unfortunately. His head reminds me of woody woodpecker.

I do make it a habbit to shoot dead wildlife and I think that your image is very nice. It's actually quite rare that I find and dead animal is a position that comes across as well as you have found here. It's a very nice image.

As for your bird. I believe that it is a Belted Kingfisher (Ceryle alcyon)

    Definitely A Kingfisher!
And they are very hard to get close to!

    Nice catch!

And he does look like Woody Woodpecker from that angle, doesn't he?

Thanks for the ID, almo! Very cool, I got me a pic of a belted kingfisher. Now if only Paul would lend me that 500mm bird lens. :)
