    Playing at the Beach
I know, not quite what you were expecting to see lol.
It was ME playing at the beach not the kids

I know this type of picture has been seen lots of times before, but, I just had to try it for myself.

Couldn't have been easy to align the camera sun and then after releasing the shutter getting your hands in the right place.

    Thank you James.
It wasn't easy John. I couldn't see a darn thing afterwards lol.
I think if I am going to try it in future I will put folded negatives in front of my viewfinder!

    So do I Ty lol.

This was inspired by a wonderful friend of ours, who took a picture like this, of his Son about 11 or 12 years ago. And I have always wanted to try it for myself.

I think his was shot earlier in the day though and I don't think he achieved the star burst either. But then, that was in the days of film so he couldn't see how it had turned out until he got the shot developed.

Tip (which I stole from someone else, can't remember where I read it :)): When composing into the sun, stop the lens down all the way (f22, etc) and press the DOF preview before looking into the viewfinder. Once that's done, set the aperture at whatever you want to shoot (which may be all the way down anyway to get the biggest star effect).

I may have seen similar shots before, but this is very well done. If you set this is a self portrait, that's pretty amazing.

i think these usually work best with the longest lens possible as well, increasing the size of the sun. of course that makes communication between photographer and subject that much harder.
